Just hit a construction-related pothole today.

The TPMS instantly showed 0 psi on the rear-right tire, but I was still able to drive (albeit carefully) a bit less than a quarter mile home to park.

What are the chances that the actual wheel was damaged as well? Don't want to spend more money on a new set of wheels...

Just thought I'd ask before I change to my spare and visit a tire center in a couple hours...

Sucks. Can you post a photo of the rim? I've lost 4 custom rims and a tire in two different incidents and was forced back onto my stock rims. If that happens again I plan to move down to 18" rims for extra protection.

Take it to a trusted tire specialist. They can dismount the old tire and spin the rim up on the balancing machine. There, it will be easy to spot any out of round of the rim or cracks to the lip and barrel. Once the new tire is installed, they can soap up the rim and look for slow leaks as well.

There is no way to know without inspecting the wheel as pointed out above.

The chances are 50%. It's damaged, or it isn't.

Thanks all.

Took it to a tire rack authorized installer, they seem pretty trustworthy per Yelp.

Luckily they said the rim wasn't cracked. My assumption is because it was a bit over inflated at 45 to 47 psi.

Im omw now to pick up a new Michelin PS AS 3+ but I'll ask them if they checked the following:

Yeah I really wanted to jump down to 18s but I can't really afford a new set of rims along with new sets of tires. Hopefully I don't hit another pothole.
Also definitely will be submitting a claim to the city.

I stepped down to 18"s for winter......

These are 2 separate pot holes on 2 separate rims. Both were loosing air (but not suddenly to 0 psi)

Wow. All the more reason not to have expensive rims in the winter, or any time of year depending where you live I guess. Glad those weren’t your good ones. Hope all works out.

I literally beat these 2 rims back with a 10lb sledge hammer and some wood

They are now holding air - and surprisingly round (smooth).

All the more reason for steel winter rims! Congrats!

I hit a pothole in early December, and it cost me 1 225/40 and 1 255/35 19 Toyo GSI-6 tires. They'd only been on the vehicle for a month ( winter tires on stock wheels ) and even at our cost it was still a $650 Canadian wound :(

Can you bill the city like we can in some places here?

As i found out while trying to do exactly that, it is on the off ramp from a municipal highway that flows through the city, and is therefore apart of the provinces roadways. Getting a hold of a department with the province of Alberta about it is literally impossible.

More or less yes lol. First one was kindly written off after being smacked around by 3 vehicles in the middle of a blizzard last April. Second one was great, but the incentives on Loyalty financing made the 2020 too attractive to pass up the change!

Shouldn't your handle be "Third Chance", then? :P

Just wait, the 2021's are only 7-8 months away (maybe)!
