Hey all,

I just traded my '19 GT2 for a '23 GT2. I have had AAWireless for years, and it worked flawlessly in my '19. I swapped everything over to my '23, and everything works as-is... except the steering wheel mounted phone button. It doesn't do anything. Outside of AAWireless / Android Auto, it works fine with regular BT phone calls. I tried everything I can think of and no luck. I reached out to AAWireless support and they said:

"There is really no difference on how Google Assistant is triggered and working from a car/head unit perspective. However it is possible that Android Auto on the phone acts differently when used over Wi-Fi compared to USB. Usually, the main cause is power saving. Please double check that there is no battery optimization function enabled for Google Play Service, Google and Android Auto, also please double check if it still works over USB as it can be a coincidence as well. A reboot of the phone might also help."

I tried their suggestions as well, also with no luck. If I access the phone via the nav screen phone button, everything works fine. Any ideas at all?? Thanks in advance!

Which phone button are you referring to? The one that triggers the assistant? or the one that has the actual phone indicator on it?

The actual phone button, with the headset logo on it.

Well, if it works anything like the system in my 22 G70 does (Also post facelift, like the 23 Stinger you have) then the top left button triggers the assistant, while the button with the phone logo on it answers/ends calls, and then calls then can redial the previous phone number if held, though it may be doing that through the infotainment and not AA itself. Besides that, it has never done anything else, as it just consolidates the answer and end call buttons that the pre-facelift models had into one button.

That's odd, because in my '19, pressing the phone button (via AA or regular car BT) would bring up the main phone menu. I wonder if things changed in the '22 refresh?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

That is correct, in my 18 stinger it did the same thing, I am guessing because AA recognized it as a separate button, now that one button does both accept and end call, its only registered as the end call button so it only does the redial function that the decline call button in the pre-facelifts would do.

So I guess there's nothing wrong on my end at all, and it was just a change to the button layout/assignment with the refresh I wonder why it still acts the way it did in my '19 through regular BT though?

Most likely because your 19's infotainment was the one actually doing the commands and AA was just reacting, the same way the 23 is now.
