At the local hardware store the other day and had this crazy idea which acted on today.

The idea is a simple mod to divert more air through the OEM intercooler.

I noticed that I had 4 tabs on the top of the OEM cool that seemed to do nothing. So I purchased some alloy extrusion that's normally used for covering the area where carpet and lino or wood floors are joined together.

I inverted the extrusion, cut the piece to the correct length, marked and drilled the holes, and the riveted the extrusion to the intercooler ( 3mm rivets ). Done !

Its very sturdy and "should" help.

Anyway, use the idea if you want.

In the rare chance that someone is actually interested......

Why bother doing this ?
Well, the OEM Intercooler sits down low behind the front spoiler / lip and only about 3.5" of the core is exposed to DIRECT airflow.

So, the idea is to grab a little more air and direct it through the cooler. And, as an added bonus, the diverter will stop direct rain etc from impacting and eroding the foam seal back between the cooler and the air conditioning condenser.

Here's the cooler in situ during installation.

I then decided to sure up each end of the diverter ( and dust off my lockwire skills ) ...

Now, looking straight in the front you can see the diverter ( but not the foam behind it ).

In the above pics the diverter looks less profound because of the camera angle, but this pic give you more of an idea.

Anyway, it's a minor mod that won't affect your warranty and it's cheap, easy and has to do some good even though I know must people on here are more into buy and bolt on mods.

The next incarnation of this diverter mod could be a platform for water spay nozzles if desired.....

But if nothing else, there's pictures, and we all like pictures :D

Not bad. My idea of getting more airflow to the intercooler was to check the OEM one in the bin (MCM voice) and get a Mish kit :p
On a side note, a lot of the aftermarket FMICs come with a shroud or air diverter of some sort. Mish has one on the sides and wagner has one.

True, but as I found out, ( see my post in the Stinger Down Under section ) not all intercoolers fit all Stingers. :(
