I have searched here, reddit, and YouTube and outside of afe's promotional video, I cannot find much information on their cat back system with the evc module for the 18-21 3.3t

Does anyone have any clips or experience with them? The evc intices me due to having 2 boys who ride in the back and our 4 hour trips to the beach 2-3 times a year and the ability to "mute" the sound level some for comfort. I do want to have a more aggressive note 75% of the time. I live in the country, where mustangs and mopars wake the dead regularly, and while I am not trying to be them, a little more grunt seems fitting for the car.

Thanks

Unfortunately, with it being a newer product that just came out a few months ago, there aren’t many sales of the product yet in the marketplace.

I think we’ve sold 2 units so far. We also have the JUN BL EVC option available as well, linked below.

2018-2021 Kia Stinger 2.0T & 3.3T - aFe Gemini XV EVC Catback Exhaust - K8 Stinger Store

2018-2023 Kia Stinger 3.3T - Jun Bl EVC Performance Catback Exhaust System - K8 Stinger Store

We do not have any clips to share, but essentially either system will allow you to open or close the valves to make the Stinger quieter when you want.

Let us know if there are any questions we can help answer for you.

I've seen the JUN but I feel it to be a bit too pricey for this vehicle. I just can't justify over 3k after taxes. I have found the afe for around 1500-1600 but again the issue was little in the way of actual real world application.

I want something that can be heard and lower the tone, but can also be quiet when needed. This seems to be a potential fit at a reasonable price point. As a vendor, were you provided anything beyond the promo clip on YouTube?

Edit: didn't see your message about not having clips at the end of your reply. Sorry about that.

Thanks.

Absolutely we appreciate your feedback and completely understand. We’re happy to be able to offer different options for the platform.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find any other videos after doing my own search on YouTube and looking on the manufacturers website.

Welp, I just placed my order with K8 with the help of David. We may not have any install and sound clips, but we will in a couple weeks! Guess I'ma be the guinea pig.

Thanks David!

How'd you like the exhaust? Any videos?

Well, its on. Waiting to post videos until my tips arrive. No matter how well i was able to get the pipes into the stock tips, drone occurs. Assuming its just that the pipes, like every other aftermarket exhaust, aren't quite long enough to get the output beyond the bumper. I also got a bad motor for the EVC. It comes with 2 motors, one for each muffler, and on install day they worked, and they actually make a difference in sound and level that's easily noticeable. But day 2, one of the motors seized and will not function despite getting power, tested with a voltmeter. Since afe outsources them through a third party like basically every evc on the market, i chalk it up to more being on the 3rd party and not afe and a "it happens" mentality. AFE was nice enough to send me a free warranty replacement for it with zero hassle.

Outside of the drone from 1700-2500rpms cruising, it sounds nice. It has what i would consider a very deep/rich tone, and the rasp that typically comes with near every tt v6 not made by porsche, doesn't really show up until upper levels of rpm range. Install was fairly straight forward, all pieces bolted/clamped together very nice. Of course lining up the pipes to the tips center is the hardest part of any exhaust and no different here.

My tips are supposed to be here on the 26th (ebay specials but they are similar to the aliexpress ones) and new motor shipped out from cali yesterday.

Once i have those items and the exhaust note is actually leaving the car instead of being bottled up under it, i will put up some videos. I feel its unfair to capture something that isn't 100%.

100% accurate and very well said.

Awesome! Thank you for the honest review and for your feedback.

Once you get the tips put on it will help with the drone and overall tone a bit, but yea the way our car is designed with the rear hatch being a boombox, it will be impossible avoid drone completely. As long as the sound exits outside of the rear bumper it will be far better. I remember doing a muffler delete without tips. Holy hell my ears bled. Couldn't stand is even for 1 day.

Valved exhausts are seriously the only way one should go towards putting any exhausts. Having the ability to make the exhaust quieter is the ultimate way to enjoy it. I love my setup with the borla active + ark downpipe + APR wireless valve controller + exhaust tips. Driving it with valves closed is really a nice noticeable difference. Drone is definitely more noticeable when on the freeway with AC on going uphill. Hopefully you get yours all setup and done. Took me a while to figure out what I wanted and get it all setup.

SO, my tips finally showed yesterday and i got them on late last night. The tips themselves are pretty nice. They are the Akrapovic eBay finds with a stainless steel pipe in center and a carbon overlay attached.

I was able to get a small sample taking my oldest to school this am. HUGE difference. So here's my opinion on sound now that the exhaust is complete.

With the valves closed, the car has a noticeably lower exhaust note, but don't mistake that for loud. Closed, the car is slightly above "stock with engine noise simulator turned up." It is really pleasant. No drone to speak of at all. just a nice slightly louder, but richer tone. My 5 year old and I were able to have a pleasant convo with the windows down on the way to school. If stock with noise sim was a 1/10, I'd put the valves closed at around a 3-3.5/10. You notice it when you punch it, but otherwise the car is just lower grumble overall.

With the valves open, the exhaust really shines. Again, remember this is a small sample size of no more than 60mph on rural roads taking my kid to school. In comfort mode, i got a VERY light sense of drone from the car shifting fairly prematurely for the mpg factor. We all know the car aggressively shifts up to meet EPA requirements. But back to the exhaust. The minimal drone when it gets to the higher gears with really low rpm is honestly not that bad and had i not had a stock car for the past 6 years, i wouldn't have noticed it. It was more i noticed because i was actively listening. In no way did it rattle my brains, or any piece of dash/console inside my car for that matter. I had the front windows down, thanks cool NC mornings, and metal music on at 9-10 volume and had no issue hearing my radio. The exhaust does punch when you hit the gas though. I didn't have enough road to really stretch it out, but i did not hear the ttv6 rasp below the 4500ish that i was able to hit. It is noticeably louder than with valves closed, but in a good way. Again a nice rich, deep tone with a few burbles as it decelerates and drops though the gears rolling to a stop sign. The valves are controlled by a fob that is provided by AFE and can be opened or closed at any moment. If stock with sound sim is a 1/10 level, i would give valves open around a 7/10, which for those counting, is 4 points above the valves closed. Right now, i would have no issue rolling with the valves open 24/7 and only closing them on long drives for comfort, or when my wife is grumpy.

TLDR: If you want an exhaust you can comfortably listen to on long drives without wearing you down or have a wife who is sensitive to loud noises, BUT also crave those zoom zoom moments, this exhaust is remarkable. It is priced lower than the JUN, and is one of the few valved exhausts for the 18-21 years. It isn't going to out-sound a gt mustang or hellcat, but then again it isn't meant to. The exhaust was simple to install, the parts looked very well assembled, and the welds were fair decent.

AFE really hit a nice sweet spot with this exhaust. My only caveat is order some tips because like every other aftermarket exhaust, the post muffler pipes are not long enough. Tips should be the 63mm inlet, 75/105mm oval outlet. I would highly suggest the double layered ones as it adds a protective layer as to not melt your bumper, which has been stated on this forum before. I would also suggest getting some generic exhaust gaskets off amazon or your local auto store, 2 bolt pattern with 2.5" hole to replace the stock ones behind the downpipes. I will be doing some videos this weekend when i have the time as i don't during the weeks with school and work.
