Hello all, I'm looking to purchase a 2022 GT Line Stinger, and had a question that has been bothering me. I've done tons of research, I'm aware of the engine recall due to fire risk that other Kia models are having. I saw that the K5 2.5L turbo engine (TGDI Theta III) is also a part of the latest engine recall. Then I see that the 2022 Stinger base model engine has this very same TGDI Theta III. So why is it the 2022 Stinger isn't part of the same recall? I can't seem to get a straight answer. Any research I do points to the 2022 model being clean as a whistle. I'm trying to find out if I should be concerned with having to deal with a recall once I purchase, or if there is something that sets the Stinger base engine apart from that of the K5. Thanks in advance!

Allen

It was fixed in early 2021 with a recall. I would be almost certain new production cars were already produced with the recall already fixed.

^^Also, placement of the engine is different in the stinger vs the k5.

The recall had nothing to do with the engine. It is for the HECU (Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit). Basically this is what controls the system for the automatic braking features (AEB, SCC, etc).

This is what I keep hearing, but this is what I keep reading online:

Fuel system, gasoline: Delivery: Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings

Recall date
2021-07-07
Recall no.
21V519000
Kia Motor America (Kia) is recalling certain 2021 Sorento and 2021-2022 K5 vehicles equipped with 2.5L turbocharged engines. Fuel may leak at the pipe connection between the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel rail.
Recall consequence
A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
Recall action
Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the fuel pipe as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 21, 2021. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC214

Perhaps there are two recalls we are talking about. When I look online at the specfic 2.5L engine that is listed in the link above, its the very same engine the Kia stinger base has. So I'm left wondering why the 2022 K5 TGDI Theta III is on recall for risk of fire, yet the 2022 Stinger is not.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
You're right, could be bad. better get a GT just to be safe!

Fuel pipe is likely different anyway since the Stinger 2.5 is oriented differently. But, the 3.3 is so much better!
