Had been looking to do a lease buyout for a GT1 or GT2 AWD but came across a 2020 GT Indigo Special Edition. MSRP $46,535. Listed for $37,995 ($4040 dealer discount, $4500 from Kia). Mileage is 2816 so presuming it’s a demo. Any thoughts on price? For this, I would not do a lease buyout. I have a trade in that covers most of the purchase and with the tax benefits, avoiding $1k acquisition and buyout fees, plus $4500 from Kia, there is not much of a difference from doing a lease buyout with $8200 lease cash. Also hearing mixed reviews on lease buyouts, dealing with KMF, etc.

If you're able to purchase outright and not have to finance, i'd advise looking at a lease buyout on a GT1. If you don't have to finance it, it makes sense to game the $8,600 in lease cash on the GT1 package and ask for $4,000 off sticker. Thats a pretty hefty $12,600 in discount if you're able to buy it out of lease WITHOUT financing.

or

Get a 2021 GT1 with $4,000 discount and $5,900 discount. On the new model year getting $9,900 off a new model year should put you around $38,000 on a $48,000 car...which puts you in a new car for about what they sell for a couple years used.

But:

The special editions discounts are correct on the indigo except...

its a demo. The dealership writes demos down monthly to prevent loss of money on the car as its used. When I used to manage, i'd write my high-line cars down $500-700 monthly to help bring the price down and move an old-age demo.
Ask for another $2000-3000 dollars in "write down". Chances are good you'll get that too.

Also, buyout fees are false. You can technically buy your lease out by paying it off directly through Kia Motors Finance. Acquisition fees are $650 so, if someone is keeping the other $350 as profit, be wary of any other numbers they are quoting.

I work as an auto broker and have to charge a doc fee on anything I do but, $225 as a doc fee is more than reasonable for a lease buyout.

If you have questions on the Stinger deal, give me a call at 970-889-9835. I don't mind helping you out and I don't charge for advice! :)
