Just got a new 2019 Stinger GT1 with ~120 miles driven, love the car but the first thing I noticed that was way different than my previous car was the PSI on the tires.

The dealership had them at 56PSI which I thought seemed off but the dealer said was normal.

After buying the car and putting my own 180 miles on it, the ride was extremely bumpy even on comfort mode in the city. I look at the door panel and it has the tires listed at 36PSI.

The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 255/35ZR19 and even on their website it has max inflation pressure at 50psi.

Should I be worried about how fast the tires will degrade now since it drove ~300 miles on extremely inflated tires?

HOLY CRAP!!!
Deflate immediately!!

Pressures should NOT exceed 40psi. It says right on the tire sidewall.

Yeah I deflated it today a week after I bought it and who knows how many test drives.. The ride felt smooth on the highway but when I went over a big bump today, it felt as if the back tire was about to burst so I pulled over immediately in 94F and deflated all four to 36/37PSI..

The ride is way smoother now and actually has grip.

A week driving with those pressures? Wow. Glad to know they didn't blow up on you while driving.

I bet this really inspires confidence in your Dealer...

Incredible that they can mess up something so simple yet so incredibly important.

Disappointing, yet very common. Your tires will be fine now that you've reduced the pressure.

They transport the cars with inflated tire pressures, the dealership is supposed to lower them before they sell but they are too lazy. Mine came the same way.

To echo others in this thread, this is (sadly) common.

The correct inflation pressures are on the tyre placard and in your owners manual.

Different owners like different pressures, and even changing tyre brand/model may require minor adjustments - but for most people, 36-40psi is the range that the tyres should be inflated to.

In good news, it's unlikely that your brief time at 50+psi has done long term damage or significantly reduced the life of the tyres. You may have suffered a small amount of extra wear in the centre of the tread block (but given only a week, not much).

Yeah I'm guessing the mechanics inflated to 56 when they saw "60psi" on the bottom of the placard. But that 60psi is for the spare..

It clearly says 36psi for the front and 36psi for the rear tires. Even on the tires themselves, there are "50 MAX PSI" markings.

Glad I caught it when I did, now my tailbone doesn't feel like I'm horseback riding.

That's no excuse - it's just shithouse behaviour.

Makes you wonder what else they screwed up or forgot to adjust...

I would definitely have a go at the dealer. Setting tyre pressure is part of PDI (for which you were charged) and missing something so basic raises concerns as to overall service quality. I'll bet whoever did the PDI just automatically ticked every inspection point.

I drove on my Michelins for c. a week at 50+ psi too. No trouble. I have well over 15K miles on my OE tires. The center of the rears is significantly more worn than the edges. I've run them at psi between 33 and 40. Cold. When you deflated to 36 psi hot, your cold psi may drop to 30 or even less, which is too low for normal driving (not drag racing). Adjust the psi only on cold tires. The ambient temperature of "cold" tires can vary throughout the year (if you get real winter) by easily 3 to 5 psi.

Holy crap. I'm so appreciative of this thread. My tire sensor says 55psi on mine as well. Had my car about a week. Going to deflate as soon as I get out of work. Ugh. Put about 200+ miles on mine and I'm in vegas heat.

Dealer delivery charges and they repeatedly offer up this nonsense. As mentioned by others most Kia dealers are not ready to sell premium vehicles.

Never heard of a consumer car being at 55/56PSI.. Some mechanics are room temp IQ.

Don’t underestimate these dealers, they were so generous that they filled my oil up an extra quart over the full line during my first “free” oil change......I checked the dipstick the next morning and found this out after my 50 mile drive home.

Sorry, but it has nothing to do with the brand. I test drove a BMW X7 last weekend. It had 322 miles on it and rode hard. I checked the psi, they were all still at delivery, which was max per tire. 54 psi as they were hot.
