2019 - Active Engine Sound has an off setting

This is doubling as a "I've joined the community!" post.

So I'm in Vancouver, Canada, and test drove the 2018 a few times, I wanted the white exterior with red interior, and they were all out in our area in late July, so we got one of the 2019 models! Just took delivery yesterday!

I'm familiar with the menu settings for the Active Engine Sound for the 2018's, so I was pleasantly surprised when we went into the settings and saw the new menu for it. It's no longer under custom only, and I believe it applies to all modes.

I didn't notice any other changes. My dad bought it, but I'll probably use it more than him in the long run, once he gets his fill of it. So excited, time to swap badges, get the rubber mats and maybe mud flaps.

I wonder if this will get rolled out to the 2018s in an update. Not counting on it.
 
It seems that this could just be a software update to be applied to the 2018s, let’s hope it comes in a few months.

hows the coasting neutral control?

Is this new for 2019? I saw the option but left it unchecked. Googling it, this is supposed to stop the "engine braking" or "regenerative braking" experienced at slower speeds?

edit: I'll enable it tomorrow and let you know how it is

Pretty cool you can change how the car coasts too.

In Canada, at least right now, there are only two options on the V6. GT & GT Limited.

We went with the GT Limited, and I'm not sure if there's any difference between it and the GT2 offered in the US.

The 2018 GT Limited has some extras that the US GT2 doesn’t have, not too sure about the 2019.

Oops. I only just noticed you were in Canada too, so I didn't need to compare to the US trims! Nice that the GT Limited has even more bells and whistles.

This triggered me. I really dislike the engine braking experience when coming to a stop... and here they've fixed it in a way that I will never see.
 
Interesting. And here with me coming from 15 years of driving manual transmission cars I miss the engine braking. I need to use my brakes too much, I don't really think the Stinger does enough. Last car would go 60,000 miles on a set no problem. And they were not highway miles either...

What about using the paddle shifters? not the same experience?
 
No, The amount of deceleration you get in this car when compression braking (downshifting) seems significantly less than with my last manual car. There is no direct coupling from the engine to the wheels so it is to be expected I guess.
Most people would probably prefer the car to free-wheel when you let off the gas.
I learned from the transmission poll just how much an anomaly my preference is.

So just a note, the coasting is only for Eco & Smart modes, which I don't particularly care for. I tried it a bit but the stop & go traffic today didn't give me much opportunity to test it out. But because it's not applicable for Comfort & Sport, I don't think it's very useful for day to day driving.

I get pretty severe motion sickness - to the point where I can't be driven around by others for longer than 20 minutes or so depending on the road.

While driving I have no issue - being engaged with the road and in control of the cars behavior helps a lot. One thing I wasn't expecting/didn't think about when switching to an automatic was the unpredictable engine braking when slowing to a stop. I can't control when the car downshifts (unless I'm in paddle mode all the time), and the sudden jerks accompanied with the downshifts at unpredictable times messes with my head.
 
Wow, that stinks. Is this with any automatic transmission or is the Stinger worse than others.

It does a decent job rev matching but there is a jerk especially in sport mode, probably due to the higher RPM that it holds.

You're not alone. I prefer to do engine braking myself and use the manual mode on my cars to downshift instead of using the brakes. I can downshift to whatever gear I want so I can be ready with the go pedal in the right gear instead of it dropping a gear sometime later when I press the gas.
