2018 JD Power owner survey data

Not surprising. Stinger takes hits with exterior/interior quality issues and dealer experience with 6 out of 10. Mechianicals ok at 8 , performance at 10.

2018 Kia Stinger GT2 RWD Ratings | J.D. Power

I suspect 2019 won’t improve as depreciation we are seeing will pull it down.

Most people who buy luxury cars don’t like mixing with common folk buying Kia Rios and Souls.
Horse pucky. Most people don't think about being "royalty".

If the Kia dealer experience hurts the Stinger it's because of the DEALERS being cretins. If you upped the dealer experience to four out of five being A class instead of two out of three, the Stinger would hit 90 in the ratings.

Note that this is owner's feedback. A lot of a new car is the mental attitude of the buyer the first year. Many brands are status symbols on initial purchase which later turn out to be extremely expensive to maintain and which have excessive rates of repair. The Escalade is highly rated here, but if you look at other long term evaluations (Consumer Reports comes to mind although I don't trust them on cars) you'll find the repair rate on that SUV is much higher than average. Porsche owners are dedicated car geeks and enthusiasts and are limited by their excessive prices. If you spend that much money on a fancy car, you gotta love it or you have admitted that you made a mistake. Lots of psychology in those new car ratings that has less to do with quality and reliability. JMHO.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Porsche guys already know 911 is one of best cars made on the Planet wth JD power reconfirming top spot honors.

Kia did ok given this was a new car. But as I have indicated Kia dealer experience for 50k MSRP car is hurting their numbers. Most people who buy luxury cars don’t like mixing with common folk buying Kia Rios and Souls. Makes me wonder if Hyundai should just rebadge Stinger and sell as Genesis hatchback? Genesis scored much higher.

Hyundai and KIA are separate companies using the same platforms for their vehicles. Hyundai created Genesis to sell luxury vehicles, KIA is a competitor to Hyundai and sells competing vehicles in the same space. KIA should do something separate in the luxury space as well but it seems they just want to sell everything under the same brand. That will change, I feel.

As others have mentioned, it is the dealer network that Kia needs to update. The Stinger is attracting Audi, MB, BMW, Lexus and other brand owners, but many (most?) Kia dealers are still rooted in the cheap little Soul, Forte, Rio sales. $50,000 car buyers expect a little more sophistication. My own local Kia dealer sells the living hell out of the little cars to people just barely able to make the payments and who should probably not be driving new cars. So they see a Stinger at the dealership and they admire it but can't afford it. My local dealer has sold hundreds of the little cars and only two Stingers in over a year. Other dealers have sold dozens or more because they advertise it locally and they attract eligible buyers. Kia corporate also needs to sprinkle Stinger ads around more different places than last year's Super Bowl and the NBA games. Kia is doing some Telluride ads but no Stingers, and where they do advertise such as tennis matches, there is only the KIA, not the Stinger specifically.

I "found" my Stinger online when searching for a replacement for my G8 GT, not in a dealership showfloor. But I'm a car geek. Perhaps that's all they need, and they save a lot of money by not spending it on ads. We'll see how the "Give it all you have" slogan works, but it's Kia, not Stinger.

This doesn’t preclude Hyundai from producing the same car under Genesis name. The relationship of Hyundai and Kia goes far beyond competitors. And look at how many car manufactures do same thing. Fiat and Mazda, Toyota and bmw. Etc

Why not Stinger Twin with little more upscale appeal? It’s a market niche that Hyundai is under appreciating . Upscale stinger maybe Shooting brake version with V8 would certainly shake things up with German guys.
