Hi there!

I wanted to share my personal case with you guys and get your opinion on my experience. My problems began with what KIA says is a software problem related to the GPF (gasoline particulate filter) regeneration. In very short, the car starts to heat up the GPF in order for it to regenerate but it never reaches the "optimal" temperature. There is no error but the car uses way more fuel and driving at constant speed (during this process) is very frustrating as the car doesn't seem to be able to keep constant revs. It kind of stutters along, regardless of speed and rpm.
This happens randomly, more often if the car is used in stop and go traffic.
For this one problem, KIA said there will be a software update but it's unclear when it will come. Any day now..

There is however a second problem. When I turn on the car in the morning, it's all normal until I put it into D or R. Then, it simply drops revs to about 500rpm and the engine almost shuts down. The rpm is also very unstable, but only in D or R. In N, everything is perfectly fine. After the engine heats up, all symptoms are gone.
For this, the've changed the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle valve, replaced the high pressure pump and now all 4 injectors. It's still exactly the same.

They instructed me now to wait for the new software which will come on a new ECU apparently. This should fix the first problem. But can it really fix the second one? How could a software fix a problem that was not there a few months ago?

Really curious about what you think..

What year is your 2.0T???? Just posted this plus a little more under the "full moon" thread.....my car started doing something very similar.....

"
Hate to even add this post but.............................. DON'T OVERLOOK EVEN THE SLIGHTEST ISSUE!!!!!!

Got the news just today that Kia has to replace my engine!!!!!!!!!!!!! had it towed to the dealer yesterday morning with CEL code P0303 (misfire cylinder #3) after testing, no compression on that cylinder.....no explanation as to the cause but a new engine has been ordered none the less. Will have the car at least 2 weeks...."""

It's 2019. I am also following the "full moon" thread but the issue is not quite the same. My car acts completely normal except from when the engine is cold and the car is in D or R. Or when the car is in the regenerative function (which I guess you don't have because the US doesn't impose the GPF as far as I know).
Sad to read about your story but happy they found the fault quickly and are changing the engine. They have no clue as to what is causing my problems..

that is the thing....they didn't really catch it......it had just been serviced after 25K miles. No issues up to that point....not blaming Kia. they are doing warranty claim and i have a car for the next two weeks......it is not a Stinger though....

Mine has 63.000 KM but the first issues (with GPF regeneration) started almost 30.000 KM ago but were hard to understand.
While I had mine in the shop they gave me a Kia Ceed with a 1.4 MPI engine and a whooping 100hp :))

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Vis-a-vis the software update, when it comes: I think that fixing the one could very well fix the other issue; they could be interrelated. Everything software regulated in these cars crosses over or is impacted in unforeseeable ways; which is why Kia sometimes tosses their hands in the air and simply starts over; as in @monusa 's case with a new engine?!

Like the old saying: "easy to add, hard to take away"......i really liked the Stinger from the start but now, i REALLY like the car.....not having it makes me think of all the reasons i like the car...will just have to make due with this Forte for a couple of weeks.....hmmmmmmm for some reason, "Supra" comes to mind.......LOL!!!!!!!
