Kia if you are listening please do something about some stealers adding 1,800 USD in silly things like window tinting and nitrogen in tires. This is a scam and should be penalized by KIA America.
Thanks.

Got to check my window sticker, regarding the nitro. Curious now...

Why did you agree to it? It’s not Kia’s fault or a “scam”. I’m sure some customers enjoy the convenience in the Dealer doing the window tinting for them and are willing to pay for it. The price is rediculous but that’s the standard for Dealer offered services.

Dealers will always look for ways to make a buck. It’s up to the customer to say no. I hate addons like this as much as you but we’ll never be rid of them for that reason.

Who said I agreed? After strong negotiations dealer took it off of the price. Too bad this kind of things are not put into scrutiny by Kia America.

It has to be on the contract you signed. Therefore, you agreed in writing. Dealers are good at burying stuff like this but the numbers won’t lie.

And when you picked up the car at delivery and the windows were tinted, did you ask why and how much that cost? That would have been a good time to say no as well.

Yes I argued did not want those options, the windows were already tinted, took me a lot of effort but they took out the 1,800 over charge. I think is a way for them to have a bargaining chip when negotiating discounts.

Good for you. Yeah they’ll do what they can to make money. Selling add-ons is important. They don’t make a ton on the car sale so add-ons, fees and maintenance is where they profit.

This is not a problem with just KIA but most dealers have dealer add-ons. Dealerships use some of the extra profits from exorbitantly overpriced add-ons for benefits for employees so the salesmen and managers fight tooth and nail to keep. Some low pressure dealerships (usually luxury car dealers) don't have them, so if you're used to purchasing only luxury cars you may not have seen them as much but the Stinger is a KIA so they sell them the same way as their low profit, high volume cars.

Exactly.. almost every manufacturer has dealers that do this. It's why car dealers are second on the list behind lawyers. Manufacturers can't do much about it.

There are obviously exceptions - which is why I bought mine from Kia of Muncie (Indiana) and drove it 560 miles home.

The buyer should never forget that the dealership is an independantly owned business that has a contractual agreement to buy, sell and service the vehicles sold by the respective vehicles manufacturer.

Expecting a manufacturer to get involved in problems that you experience in the buying process is an exercise in futility.

Unless there is a legal exposure to the manufacturer they will more often than not choose not to get involved.

I guess I got lucky, because I didn't have any of that stuff on my car to argue about. If I had, the feeling would have turned sour and I'd have walked away: because, as I said to my wife at the start of the business day (we arrived early), "If this is supposed to happen, there won't be any hitches in the gitalong; everything will sound up front; and the buying process will move smoothly. If not, then we leave and that's that." Eleven months later, here I am, very happy that "it was meant to be".
