Does anyone know where I can buy shocks for a 2021 Stinger GT2 RWD, because I can't seem to find them anywhere other than a dealership? Are the Hyundai Genesis the same as the Stinger? I have installed new tie rod ends on the front and new sway bar links on the rear, but the car still tosses me from side to side every time I hit a bump/dip in the road. It feels like the whole car is floating from side to side every time I hit one.
 
I am curious about this subject as well. However I am more interested in better aftermarket dampeners that will work with the Kia suspension controls. With 74k miles on my 2019 GT1 I know I will eventually need new dampeners.
 
Yeah wow $2000+ for that one down here...

Had my rear passenger shock changed under warranty. Drove around with it like that for 2 years. Originally went to the dealer saying the car had a big pull to the left (RHD) after many wheel alignments and a factory steering wheel reset nothing worked. The dealership did a diagnostic test and said nothing wrong. A "Kid" said the report reads normal, I said what's with the 52kg extra over the passenger rear? Anyway 2 years later a suspension expert picked it up and I then got another shock under warranty. With that and other bs I parted out after 6 years . The Kia service experience was full of attitude from the original purchase to any technical issues.

Shame my warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on but then I didn't buy this car for the warranty...

Gecko Coil overs in the New Year, might be able to sell my old electric ones to someone in a pinch as they are so phucken expensive lol

Works fine in Sport just rattles in comfort 🤔
 
The Stinger/G70 platform unfortunately is not popular enough for the aftermarketeers to offer replacement shoch/struts. There is OEM replacement, of course, but unless you can get them at deep discount, it really doesn't make $$ sense. So realistically, your best option is to go coilovers. Make sure the make of coilovers you are going with offer rebuild services (at reasonable prices), or else you'd be back to the same problem in a few years. Shocks are wear items and don't last forever. Mostly it's the shoch oil inside that needs changing periodically, just like your engine oil.

BTW, the G70 shocks and struts are physically identical. We got the same coilovers on our G70 and Stinger. However, the damper valving might be a tad different, especially for the rear end. Probably not big enough of a difference that you'd notice in everyday driving. if you happen to find a set of G70 dampers with super low miles on them, it might not be a bad option.

I certainly hope by shock you mean the pair on the axle and not literally an individual shock. IMO they should be replaced in pairs, or ideally all 4. Same reason you don't (usually) replace a single tire on an axle or a single shoe on your foot. Weird handling characteristics would result.

It's pretty common for dealerships to replace only a single shock for warranty work. Warranty never covers anything preventative and the general guidance to replace both is because the other half of the pair is very likely in similar shape. But if it ain't broke........
 
I agree shocks are best replaced/serviced as a set. However, what is covered by factory warranty depends on the failure mode. For the car to pull hard to one side, with everything else checking out okay, that one shock must be blown out pretty badly, compared to the other side. Who knows... there might have been an oil leak (or some other internal damage), enough that that one shock basically becomes non-functional. That is valid ground to be considered a defect and should be covered by warranty.

That is very different from the shock oil losing its viscosity index with use over time and, therefore, its effectiveness. That typically degrades gradually, is considered normal wear & tear, and likely not covered by factory warranty.

Just the one I'm afraid. Parted out two years ago still not impressed with Kia's service ethics.

Yep it was bad and the oil leak is how the suspension centre picked it. But Kia didn't even with the glaring diagnostic report.
 
Was really hoping to find some cheaper options, but looks like these shocks are only available from Kia.

Crazy how expensive even one shock on its own can be.

50k on mine right now and no issues but man I really hope they last till 100K. No way I'm paying for a new set of 4 and spending 8K.

Will just have to go aftermarket for 2k.
