Hi All,

Anyone tinted the windshield yet? If so...

Any issues with install?
- water from install into dash area, electronic issue after the fact, etc?
Any issues with HUD view-ability after the fact?

Looking at 3M Crystalline for heat blocking ability.

Thanks

I have mine tinted 50% and love the glare and temperature reduction

Thanks, was looking at 70% for mine.

Anyone with a HUD?

I also have the windshield coated. No tint, just UV protection. Unfortunately, I do not have the HUD

Heat is lessened by more than half.

Thanks, ive done this on other cars but not with HUD and not with as many internal electronics. Agreed that heat reduction is amazing. Just want to be certain there is not a bigger risk i am not aware of.

I have 70% 3M crystaline and I have no issues at all to report, I also have a HUD. I'v had it installed for 2 months.

Really the crystalline does not impact the HUD in anyway?

not at all. See photo below. Towards the bottom right.

Wow thats awesome. I'm a big crystalline fan. Have it on my Golf R, and on the windshield and WHOA what a huge difference in lowering temps.

Thanks!! BMW forums agree but that could be different HUD and different glass.

I'll be getting mine soon.

Not a deal breaker for me. Nice to be cooler in summer, not so nice to get into a cold car in the winter when the tint is blocking the sun. Can't have it both ways.

In AZ we have only two seasons. Summer = HOT and Winter = slightly less hot

TBH, I've never gotten in my car and thought...damn, too bad that tint is blocking the heat!!

But that does make sense

Yes, it does matter a great deal on where you live. Here in the Midwest U.S. we get the full range of temperatures to (occasionally) zero to well over 100 and everything in between. It's really nice to leave the sun roof shade open in the winter and get into a nice warm car when the sun is out.

That's when I use my remote engine starter. It's a necessity in the midwest.

Apparently still illegal to have any tint on the windshield in Texas. The exception is a strip up to 6" wide across the top (which I think looks dorky).

But isn't there a clear UV material that will cut down on heat without actually tinting the glass?

Most plastics are UV blockers, and auto glass, especially the windshield contains a plastic film in the sandwich. Side windows are "shard" proof but not usually sandwiched. The reason is that in the event of an emergency you need to be able to break out a side window to exit -- you want it break but you don't want it to have sharp points and edges. I don't know about the rear window but with the defrost elements, I doubt it is sandwiched.

I was considering this but I replace my windshield so often that it probably wasn’t worth it. You having cactus tint do it?

Not yet but planning to do the Xpel Blue 80. Installer said it won’t interfere with the HUD.

Yep, either them or Protective Film Solutions...I had to pay for the garbage dealer tint so am trying to find a place and work a deal that can remove the dealer tint, and then install 3M Crystalline all around, including windshield. Individual pricing has been fairly comparable so i am hoping to get a "bundle" deal somewhere.

On a related note, some places will tint the sunroof and some will not.
