I just took my car to a place to get my Eibach Springs installed. Apparently according to the guy who installed it, my driver’s side tire is fingertip length away from my strut bar. He recommended I got an alignment as soon as possible, and I had to drive it 40 mins to home sticking 35mph the whole time since he recommended I drove slow until then.

He also recommended I should install spacers just incase. Does anybody have any experience with issues like this? I’m still using the factory potenza 18in tires.

Right now apparently it’s eating up on my tire, and I know there’s not really any help to be have had without any images, but I’m just looking to see if anyone has ever reported this problem as well.

Don't do spacers a finger tip is fine drive it a week before getting a alignment so the springs will settle.
You will have some negative camber in front.
But handling and looks will be greatly improved. Your tech is over reacting

Not sure how wide "fingertip length" is, but I'm guessing some 15-20mm? That is a lot of clearance. Even 10mm is plenty. I've run with even less. I would not add spacers, unless you have a better reason to.

Alignment is a must do any time you modify the suspension, though you don't necessarily have to do it right away.

Tire is finger tip width away from what?

sway bar?
end link?

Any clearance - is clearance. It fits

With struts, the relationship between the tire and strut remain constant. The tire won’t hit the strut if there’s space. I have less than a finger tip space and no contact.

This mechanic sounds oddly unaware of how suspension works.

Changing the springs makes no difference anyway. Just changes the ride height, the full up and down travel is the same. You’ll be at a different spot in the bump steer and toe might need some attention.

The only adjustment up front is toe anyway. Only coilovers with adjustable top plates will allow camber and caster. But, your current setup might not clear a coilover since the springs are a little further down the body.

There are some aftermarket eccentrics available too. I think they are only available for camber, someone else may be able to shed more light on those.

Lowering Springs M&S replaced by Coilovers with adjustable top hats for camber adjustment and ride height and damper control much more tunablePXL_20230709_221219231.webpPXL_20230709_224734341.webp

Update: both of my front wheels are scraping badly. local shop suggested i get spacers for the front, so i just bought 20mm and they'll take a look at it. gonna need to get 2 new tires as well sadly

What size and offset wheels are you running? You didn’t mention they weren’t stock. Offset and width will of course affect how close the strut is.

Do you have stock rims you can put back on ? Sounds like you had issues before lowering

Something ain't right...

We've had Eibach springs with stock wheel/tires, as well other wheel/tire combos (up to 255/40R18 on 18x8.5 ET38), on both our G70 and Stinger. Absolutely no rubbing or scraping. And we aren't shy about running them hard at the track either.

BTW, what exactly do you mean by "strut bar"? It would be either the MacPherson strut or your anti-roll bar. If you're still on your stock wheels, there is no way installing Eibach lowering springs would cause your wheel/tires to scrape either of those. Sounds like a F***ed-up install to me.

scraping what?
scraping when?

We really need pics to determine the cause. factual post?

There's definitely some info missing in here. Im bagged, as many of you know, and have no issues. IMO its a bad install, somethings not reinstalled right, or wheels.
Sway bar upside down? Endlinks backwards? All shots in the dark

Backwards endlinks good guess.
Really wish my Stinger was Bagged

18’ stock potenza tires. These springs drop it 1.4in in the front and 1.2in in the back. Taking it to the shop today to see if I need spacers or he just messed up the front springs

You do not "need" cosmetic spacers.
You may want them, for the appearance.

why no pics?

Car is still undrivable atm lol. I'll take some pics later today. My front tires and unevenly rubbing, so they suggested I needed spacers, even though I know there are plenty of people that have installed these springs without spacers, so I am once again guessing it's just a bad install.

Just out of sheer curiosity, your signature shows a 2019 premium. Is it RWD or AWD?

And if you're gonna take some pics for us turn the wheel all the way left or right and take a shot at the suspension too. Hell if you're feeling spunky throw a tape measure on it from the ground to the center wheel well. That will give me an idea of how much your car has dropped with rhe install. (See my red line)

pictures are worth a thousand words here, but it sounds like something went drastically wrong on the install. No one here has needed spacers to run lowering springs on the stock wheels and tires, 18 or 19s.

Got it fixed, dude who installed them messed up the front. That's what you get when you pay someone $350 to install springs. He sent me $200 back, but had to buy new tires running me around $575 :(
