Lug nut issue with 19" wheels. GT2 trim AWD equipped with mag seat with washer lug nuts

So I reached out to Kia USA via there web site contact portal was given a case number and a few days later was told they could not do anything as they did not have the technical expertise. They advised I contact the dealership and/or go the a Kia paysite and pay money to explain to them that they have an issue they really need to resolve, not a big fan of this. So dealer agrees with me that it is a problem but above them says it is the correct part. So todays word of the day boys and girls is bureaucracy.

Been pretty busy with other things lately so have not figured out where to go from here yet. I will say this if you have a 2020 Stinger with KIA wheel locks you should check to see if you have the correct wheel locks on your vehicle. I can tell you with 100% certainty I did not.

I have a 19 GT2 with 18” wheels. Mag style with washer.

I have a 2019 GT2 AWD and these are my lugs with washers that don't come off the lug.

Does anyone drive with the lug nuts exposed with just a center cap over the hole? (Not the star shaped snap on cover cap that covers the lugs and the holes)?

Tbh file a nhtsa safety report, they have to take it seriously then and they seem to have the proper channels to route it to vs their other channels and you will get a call from kia usually too. Esp if this affects other people.

I had an issue with missing screws on an engine harness, dealer fixed it but didn't care, called the line they're like what would we do about it? I responded like doesn't the shop floor want to know for metrics and stuff? Uh...
Filed a nhtsa complaint and got a call back with we've let the mfg people know and recorded the incident. Given this is absolutely a safety related problem I'd fill out a report and I'd imagine the trickle down will be we find out the proper locking lug nuts and maybe save someone's day from a flying wheel

I think these Gorilla 73631T wheel locks would work. They are similar with a washer.

I just ran into this very same challenge this morning. What did you do? How did you fix this? Please explain. Thanks in advance

So if you are asking about the washer coming off the lug nut, it is not supposed to come off. The barrel of the lug nut is knurled to keep the washer in place.

Looking for red lug nuts to install on the oem 18” GT wheels. Can’t seem to find any. Any help is appreciated. I have the mag with washer. 12mx1.5 I believe.

Has anyone got the code of these new lug nuts? Just got a set of 2021 Genesis G70 wheels and my 2019 19” lug nuts don’t work. They are the old tapered style. Thank you!

^^^See? It happened. What if you were someone who didn't even have the question of changing wheels between model years come into his mind? You slap on your new wheels, and being a Hyundai product expect the lug nuts to work across all the wheels. But 2020 apparently was the year that the lug nuts changed, and the wheels with them. How is it that we are not hearing of bad failures with wheels coming off? Most people are not smart enough to ask the questions in the first place.

Yes, I was very surprised today when the wheel technician said "these lug nuts are not right". I expected them to be the exact same as the ones on the Stinger. Then, I got to this thread :)
I found the info in the meantime. M12 x 1,5 size and 37mm height. I think they are now the same as the ones for Toyota and Honda. Very different to the original Stinger ones.

BUT, I was just wondering now... what about the little spare wheel we have in the trunk? What kind of lug nuts does that need? Should I keep 5 of the old ones with me at all times just in case?

That, I am 99% sure, matches the wheels. Nothing would be more daft (and court disaster) than putting a donut with a car that has different lug nuts at the four corners than the donut uses.

I agree with you. I left 5 of the old style lug nuts in my trunk.
The good thing about this change is that the new style lug nuts are exactly the same as the ones used by Honda, Toyota and Mazda. So they were very easy to source and at a good price.

Lol, you saved me again (see other thread going on this, where I credit you for my remembering to put a set of OEM lug nuts in with my spare donut kit). You just said "I left 5 of the old style" in your trunk, and I read that and thought, "Oh, he's put a spare one in." Heh! It took me several seconds of cogitating to realize that 5 is the number, not 4: this is known as a "dyxlesic" moment, where I swapped the number of wheels for the number of lug nuts per wheel.

Well, it did use to be 4 :).
When I was a kid in the '90 just after the fall of the Berlin wall, the shitboxes available on my side of the wall had only 3 lug nuts. You could either have a trabant (german) a skoda (czech) or a dacia (romanian). They were all based on '70s technology. About the time communism had proved its worth and stopped developing.
So in the '90, whenever someone would buy a VW or an Opel (GM), the 4 lug nuts was always one of the highlighted features :))

I drove Bugs for years early in my driving "career", so, I do have four lug nuts in my programming too, which may have played into my otherwise dyslexic moment. :)

I just grabbed a spare from an earlier model ( never been used ) and now 1 set of nuts fits all :)

Oh, and check your spare tire pressure pretty regularly since mine was down to 40psi after 2 years ( should be 60psi ).

My 2021 GT2 AWD came from the dealer with conical taper wheel locks with a set of washers. The set was tossed in the trunk for me to install.
These wheels need mag style locks. I spoke with the dealer and they said they had only one part number for wheel locks. These conical locks are not correct, the wheels need mag style wheel locks. I bought one set of mag locks, but the were too tall to allow the center wheel covers to seat.

Where can I buy mag style wheel locks that are short enough for the center covers to properly seat without interference with the wheel locks?
