Next week I’ll be pulling the trigger on a 18 stinger gt awd. Finalizing some paperwork now and getting ready to trade my q50 rs awd in. Long story short, i was cross shopping the q50 with the stinger about two years ago and decided to go with the q50 because I got a good deal on it. With the production of the stingers coming to a halt and the speed at which the stinger community has grown, the car is hands down a dream car to me. From the looks to it’s performance etc. In saying all this I’m all in for the stinger. Coming from the q50 I understand it’s a process to mod and it’s best to get it right first time around and then having to come back to it. So far I have I have come up with a list of foundational mods that just help the car breathe and ride smooth. In my personal opinion I was going to start off with a bigger heat exchanger to prevent heat soak, intakes, and new hks spark plugs as well as blow off valves. Stinger community will these first few mods set me up for my goals? After I get these installed it would be front and rear sway bars followed by an exhaust as the last big thing. I’m looking for a reliable 420-450 whp without tune and no plug in play tune. Just Solid power. I’m fairly new to modding as well but have learned a lot already on this forum as well as being on the q50 forum about cars. What can I say I have the car itch now and I love it.

I don't think you'll come anywhere near those number without a tune.

Stinger makes about 368 stock hp. A 15-20% decrease in power train loss and we are looking at ….? A full bolt on stinger makes ? Just trying to get an idea of how realistic my goals are? I would even be happy with a solid 400-415 whp.

I'd say, go sway bars first: as those are the only mod I've done. :D

IIRC stinger to the wheels is about 328ish. With exhaust modifications, such as cat/mid/down pipes Id say thats a good 25-30 at the crank. Decrease that obviously to get whp figuration.

Next intakes, intercooler very little.

Without a tune getting even 400-415 whp isnt doable id suspect. Unless youre slapping in a bigger turbo ofcourse ;)

In your recent research, have you seen a non-tuned Stinger come anywhere close to those numbers?

Even with a larger turbo you'd need a tune to get that dialed in/working.

Maybe down the line lol

whats your issue with an ECU tune? the stinger is pretty much the easiest car ever to do it on, cuz you literally only need a 10mm ratchet and 10 minutes of your time. The major ECU players all provide an ECU with their tune on it to swap. its literally stupid easy to do.

I’ve read a few articles here and there about not having to do too much to get power out of the stinger. In particular a YouTube vid entitled “Kia stinger gt - 340whp to 455whp.” In this video he has a stinger stock on a mustang dyno and he walks through each mod he has made and then the numbers. Not saying it’s true but just wanted a baseline about the stock whp and how realistic it is to get 400 whp with simple bolt ons. He states in the video with a Cat delete, muffler delete, intakes, heat exchanger, - 408 hp 425 tq. Is there any truth to this ?

Highly suspect. Click bait perhaps?

Found the video:

IIRC, Tork have a bit of a mixed reputation depending on who you ask and what thread on this forum you're reading.

The JB4 on my q50 caused me some issues. I data logged and made sure everything was working properly. My trans ending up locking out on me after having the JB4 only for about a week and my JB4 was off at the time experiencing problems. Told myself never playing again with the JB4 or tunes at all after that experience. I even went to a performance shop I take my all my cars to in the area to make sure the JB4 wa set up right and to look at my logs. My q50 rs 2016 had problems on top of problems and that was the last straw.

Closed the video when heard muffler delete and intakes added 30whp lol.

426hp, 472 tq with the tune is where you want to be [3:41 into the video]. I can sorta believe that on an aggressive tune. IIRC Tork have blown engines at least once on this platform. He also mentions "Lap3" at the end, isn't that a tune platform?? So not tuned, but we're tuning with a Lap 3? Maybe someone can explain that for me.

The 'stock' numbers are more than you can expect, as AtomicGTL suggested these numbers border on too good to be true. I wouldn't be buying components expecting these results. Honestly, you're better off tuning then adding mods if it were me and I was trying to come anywhere close to 400+ bhp. See where the car gets you on tune alone, then add mods based on the price/performance sweet spot. You're already raising eyebrows at the dealer with the visible mods (assuming you'd seek warranty repair), you mind as well just tune it and get it over with. :p

Because Tork sell stuff, I highly expect this all to be artificially inflated or outright fabrication to drive sales of these parts. All of the claims in the video are in a vacuum, meaning there's no way for any of us to verify anything being shown/stated. And with their reputation fairly tarnished, there's no reason we should take these claims at face value. And on Youtube, channel owners can delete the naysayer comments again contributing to their own feedback effect. Viewer discretion advised.

That sounds more like a typical day in the Redsports Life from what I have heard about them, so I really would not count the JB4 out. The JB4 is also not a dedicated ECU tune either however. Im not saying it was not related to the JB4, however the people on the forums here, myself included have had nothing but good luck and amazing support from them.

ok so it’s foolishness at its best then
Those mods definitely wont add nearly close to that number.

I do believe the stinger stock power is numbered underrated, such as bmws, audis etcs. But simply adding those types of mods are pretty hard to believe gaining that much power.

Give jb4 a shot, no one iirc had a situation like yours with the jb4 on a stinger. Or a full dedicated ecu tune if you want to flirt with sexy numbers.

A lot of ppl on the q50 forum have them and have not experienced problems (few here and there) . Part of my reasoning as to why I got one. If I did go with a plug and play tune it wouldn’t be the JB4 based solely off my last experience and just wanting to have that peace of mind.
