Hey guys, I'm new here.

Currently have a 2019 Mustang GT with about 41k miles and I am thinking about trading it in for a used 2019 Kia Stinger GT with about 52k miles. Price is about $32k before taxes and fees.

I was wondering if there were any previous Mustang (or any V8 coupe) owners who made the switch who could tell me about their experience. In your opinion, is it a good switch? And also, how is the deal for the car? $32k for the 19 GT (not GT1 or 2) with 52k miles. How reliable are these cars and are there any problems in the upper mileages?

I have the Stinger out for an all day test drive and I've been really enjoying the car. Drives nicely and feels great. I kind of wish I had a few of the features from the GT1/GT2, but I can definitely live with what's on it.

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.

$32K + the mustang? Or $32K total?

It's $32k (+taxes and fees) by itself. They offered $31.6k for the Mustang. However, I still owe $22k on the Mustang so I would be able to take the $9,600 difference and apply it to the Kia if I decided to trade in.

So not counting what you owe it's almost a wash then.

I'd say this, you need to evaluate what you gain/lose by keeping the current car and trading. You're already familiar with the mustang and any issues.

the mileage is too high IMO. I think you should be able to find a GT2 for 35-36k with half the mileage if you wait a bit.

Just an FYI, I swapped in the nav head unit and bigger/better looking touch screen into my 2020 base awd gt. Didn't cost me that much money 500-600, mostly just sweat equity.

Besides not having the sunroof and the smart trunk, those were my biggest complaints I had in not buying a gt1/gt2 from the get go. The base gt/gt1 have the odd ol school shift knob which I'm still not a huge fan of either, although I'm used to it. That can also be changed. But I believe it functions better than the electric one in the gt2.

Imo, if you want all the extras, just spend the money and get what you want, be it the gt1 or gt2. In my case, I had to stay under 40k which wasn't possible if I wanted to get a new gt1. So I went with what I promised the Mrs I could afford and bought a new awd gt.

Also, if you've test driven the car, I'm assuming your ok with the sound? As much as I love my Stinger, the sound is.....blah. I added some AEM intakes primarily just for that reason, I wanted to be able to hear the turbo's. It's still not enough and I'll be adding the MBRP exhaust at some point I'm sure but when I want some really good sound I hop in my Ford Lightning. Nothing like a V8 with a supercharger. Mustangs have always had a nice rumble. You'll definitely miss that I'm sure.

I guess my question is the reason for wanting to trade? Need room for family and kids? Need 4 doors?

i love my GT. Sure I wish it had some features from the Gt1/gt2 but I wanted to write the smallest check possible after my trade in so I jumped on my gt. I have no complaints

This is funny because I've been considering trading my stinger for a Mustang GT for a while. Test drove a 2021 manual GT Premium California Special and loved it. The sound is intoxicating. The manual is so much fun. But it was a shady dealer, and the deal fell through.

With the S650 mustang expected to be out in a year or so, I will probably wait for that. My question to you is, what are you looking for in a car? If you want more practicality, 4 doors, and comfort, the stinger may be the better choice. If it's your only car, the stinger is definitely more capable.

For me, when I bought the stinger, I wanted one do-it-all car. But now, my wants have changed, and I want to have a practical commuter car and a dedicated sports car with a manual and a V8.

Thanks everyone for the input. I get that the first thing everyone thinks of is the sound from the V8 and rightfully so. I currently have an MBRP catback on the Mustang and it is very loud (but sounds great). Everyone can hear it out on the road, so it draws a lot of attention. I can't even push the accelerator down 25% off a stoplight without sounding like I'm trying to race off the line so I always try to gradually go from a stop to try and cause less attention.

The Stinger is a very nice change from that. It looks/sounds like a sleeper and I can rocket off a stop without anyone really hearing me and it feels really nice to be able to do that. I'm not knocking anything about the sound of a V8 cause I absolutely love it of course, but the 'sleeper' aspect of the Stinger is really nice in my opinion. However, some of you are definetely right about missing the V8 sound if I ever do make the trade.

Also, I have the A10 version of the Mustang and it's not really my cup of tea. It's really too many gears in my opinion and I wish they would have went with an 8 speed at most because sometimes it feels clunky/searches for gears at times. It's not terrible, but it just doesn't feel like the smoothest thing ever. The Kia isn't perfect, but I do like the feeling of its auto over the A10. I kind of wish I would've gotten the M6 Mustang instead, but that's another story.

Gas mileage also seems better on the Kia, but I'm, not sure how true that is cause both cars seem to have similar MPGs officially. Maybe it's in my head. But the 4 seats and large trunk are definetely nice to have (although not really needed for me at the moment).

Overall, I've been very impressed with the Kia on the test drive. I have taken into consideration of people saying it's too many miles and that if I want the GT1/GT2 that I should just wait and I don't disagree at all. I still love my Mustang (even though I mentioned my minor gripes) and holding onto it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Maybe I'll just go back to the stock exhaust for the time being and maybe I can push it more often without everyone around me hearing it lol. And then I can definetely wait. I just was asking for feedback because around here it's rare to see a used Stinger GT for this price as most are 35-36k+ so I thought this was a good deal, but yeah the 52k miles are more than I would want and I wasn't sure of pre-COVID prices so maybe I should wait a year or two for used car prices to go back down and hopefully a low mileage GT2 will be in the future.

I have 53k miles on mine now! everything is running pretty smooth so far! besides all the dips I've accidentally jumped and curbs that I've slapped with my rear end. but everything's A-OK

Maybe a less throaty exhaust is all you need. I had the 6mt G37. With stock exhaust it was too difficult to tell if I was on the throttle or not (esp at part throttle). I didn't want something as drastic what you have. Already had an exhaust on the bike that could be heard from 1/2 mile away.

Went an invidia (almost like the video card brand) Q300. It was slightly louder than stock and louder yet when you put your foot into it. For general use/hwy driving it was just loud enough to be heard but not droning or annoying to others.

Found this vid on youtube -
. Seems the stock exhaust is louder on the mustangs to begin with, so maybe going back to stock is your best bet.

OTOH, if the stinger is calling your name and you _must_ have it, go for it.

After listening to that video, I’d say go back to stock exhaust and keep it. If I didn’t have kids, I’d probably be daily driving a Mustang 5.0. I still have my fox but I rarely drive it. It’s uncomfortable and it’s loud.

but if your heart is in the stinger and you really want it like I wanted mine, then do it. But I came from a slow Toyota Tacoma. I went from boring to fun. Your going fun to fun.

I didn't know u could add the newer infotainment to the base gt. How difficult was it to do it yourself? I've never worked on cars before but I'm fairly handy when it comes to computers and electronics.

I agree with the majority on here, if you need a more practical / quiet car, go the stinger. But if it's just for fun, keep the Stang.

I know what you mean about the A10. I disliked it the second I drove it.

Something else to consider, the Stang has millions of variations of millions of parts and accessories available whereas the Stinger has a lot less and are more expensive.

It's not the newer infotainment. The newer one is the 10" screen from the 2022 models. But, you can add the larger 8" screen and the nav head unit from any year premium/gt1/gt2 model to a base gt. I have a 2020, I think my screen is from a 2018 gt2. Everything works just as factory, since it IS factory :) it's plug and play. You just need the screen, head unit and the trim piece out of a premium/gt1/gt2 and a LOT of patience.

There are a couple videos of the swap on YouTube and threads on here. It sucked to do it for me as it was hot as hell 95+ outside. After doing it, I feel like I shoulda just bought a gt1 but I suck at taking things apart. Definitely glad I did it though, nice having nav, plus the screen just looks better.

Another vote for staying with the Mustang if you don't have a specific interior space reason.

At 50,000+ miles and direct injection, the Stinger may be early-mid stages of needing the backs of the valves cleaned. Possibly same for the Mustang soon.

The Stinger seems to be holding up, people tune and beat the snot out of theirs and failures don't appear rampant.

I get around 20-21MPG mixed, highway creeps up to around 28mpg on a good day. Premium gas, same for the Mustang(?).

One bad thing about driving a Mustang is that everyone is pointing their phone at you waiting for you to light up the tires and go sideways into a pole ( at least that's the way it seems from YouTube ).
