Hi all,

First post here. I'm the owner of a 2020 Stinger GT Limited AWD since August of last year. This summer, I've decided to treat myself with some decent performance parts. I've recently got myself some ARK downpipe, a MBRP catback and a JB4. All is already installed. Love the sound and the apparent improvement in performance. Seems like the car is pulling a bit harder. Thos correlates with with what dragy is telling me too.

Now, according to some information I've found, JB4 comes pre-programmed with map 1 as the default map. I've bought some cable from burgertuning that allows me to connect the jb4 device on my laptop. Plugged them on my unit and my laptop and sure enough, the unit has map 1 currently configured.

My question is basically this. Where I live, 93 octane fuel isn't readily available. I only have access to 91 premium fuel. Is it possible to run map 2 on 91 still? Even adding some non mmt octane booster would probably raise my octane rating by 1 at best, still short of the magic 93.

I currently have a bottle of VP Racing Fuel octane booster with mmt but I'm not sure I want to rely on this other than special occasions like a drag weekend.

Also, how do you take logs from the JB4 with a setup like mine? I basically have to open the hood, unscrew the screws on unit, connect the cable, plug it on my laptop, press the ignition button twice, open the JB4 software, press connect and only at that point can I do some stuff.

Thanks

Get the Bluetooth adapter for the JB4. It is completely worth it. What map you can run depends as much on IATs and boost as it does in Octane. If you get the IATs low enough you can run higher maps with lower Octane.

Can you get E85 where you are? That works well when blended in with gas.

I don’t like octane booster. It turns spark plugs orange.

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

So I do not want to purchase the Bluetooth adapter for a couple of reason. First of all, my main reason to purchase either the cable or the bluetooth adapter was to have a look at which map I was currently set. Also, I wanted to have a cheap solution to look at the logs and the blueetooth adapter is much more expensive. Second, I feel like purchasing the bluetooth adapter would open the pandora's box in myself lol. I want to keep myself tame, that is, I'd like to stick on a map and try to not think too much about it. Since the much less convenient usb cable needs me to open the hood, unscrew the box, plug the cable and plug the laptop, I don't see myself fiddling with the tune anymore than necessary compared to me using the bluetooth adapter (I don't really trust myself).

There is unfortunately no E85 pump that I am aware of where I live. Premium 91 is the best I can get assuming I do not use any additive. I also feel like I should not use any MMT octane booster for the reason ChaneRZ mentioned. From what I've read, it screws up the spark plugs and potentially the injectors.

Sorry, none of your excuses pass muster, :) Not trusting yourself, huh? There's very little to fiddle with. If you truly want to experiment with Map2 like you said, then get the adapter and app for your phone. Logging is automatic at that point and you can analyze it within seconds of the run. Another option is just posting the log and letting someone give you feedback. From your parts list, you've spent quite a bit of money so far. Why "have a cheap solution to look at the logs" ??????

Believe me, I know myself. I'm like that, always trying to get just a bit more and I'll probably end up blowing my spark plugs or something. I'll be dumb enough to try and run Map 3 on 91 octane since it's at the push of a button. That inconvenient cable really is the fail safe for me!

I honestly would rather not debate over the bluetooth unit. I've made my choice. Now, are we saying I'll have no choice but to try to reroute the usb cable back to my cabin and plug the laptop on it while I'm driving? If so, what needs to be done will be done.

The usb is now the choice. It’s cheap so you can data log.

smh, the engine saves itself by pulling timing. To each his own, best of luck.

Yea, I agree with AWDGT2. Your excuses are nothing but excuses. You have received some really good advice on how to deal with your situation the best. I really think that you should consider that advice again.

Get the Bluetooth adapter and post some logs in different maps. Also check online for gas stations that have E85. They aren’t everywhere but 1 is all you need. I found one near me by looking online and it has worked very well for me.

You can run the USB cable through the door jam. That’s how I do it. I’m not paying for a +$100 BT adapter. Sorry, but that in today’s time is severe price gouging. And I found out the USB cable is too. It’s a regular USB cable pinned on one end to a DB9 port to make it look proprietary. There’s a standard serial to USB converter onboard the JB4.

It's an interesting approach but the people here are giving you the best advise, especially considering 91 octane in Canada is hit and miss. I run Costco 91 and when I run Map 2, it's all good. However, I've run other 91 octane fuel and it wasn't all good. Thus the advise to get the BT adapter and have the ability to instantly check logs. If you aren't willing to budge and want a set it and forget it, then the only safe option is Map 1.

The closest E85 station from where I live is 400km away. I've verified. I'll post the logs soon. I've managed to pass the cable through the door jam. But still I am not paying $300 cdn to purchase that adapter, sorry. The cable I currently own will do. As long as I provide logs, we're good, right?

Thanks for the tips. Managed to do it through the door jam, just like you said. As soon as I've received the cable, I knew I could have used a standard serial to usb adapter. I have tons of those at my job. Wasted $80cdn on that but hey, what's done is done.

Oh I will monitor and provide logs, no worry. I am definitely taking the advice seriously. It's just the means that I don't agree on. I'll use my laptop, I don't mind.

I am also using costco 91, I have better results on map 1 with it than Shell 91. Let's see how it does on map 2...

Not sure if the USB cable does logs or not. I haven’t used it before.

What air intake system and intercooler are you using? Those two things will help a lot if you can’t use WMI, Ethanol, or Octane Boosters.

If you don’t have a Dragy or equivalent device you are going to need that to determine what is and what is not working for you. A butt dyno doesn’t cut it.

If you can get the logs for at least Map 1 and Map 2 then post them here and we can try to help.

USB and a laptop works fine for logging. That’s what I use.

Many thanks for the replies guys. Really appreciate it. Unfortunately didn't have the chance to do any run since last time I posted. There's very few spots near me where I can basically do any quarter mile pulls in peace. If the weather is good this weekend, I'll go to a drag strip to get some logs.

My current mods are only JB4 @ Map 1 with Denso spark plugs, Ark secondary downpipes and MBRP catback. I am running on stock Intakes, stock Intercooler. I am currently planning to install either AEM, Power Agency, Injen of K&N intakes next month as I know stock intakes currently limit me a bit but it seems like they are all on back order here in Toronto. Maybe I'd be better off waiting to install them until I try MAP 2?

I do have a Dragy equivalent device (racebox) giving me some info on my pulls.

Here's some stats, current best with current mods (with corrected times):

0-60mph: 4.23s
0-100kph: 4.47s
80-120kph: 2.68s
60ft: 1.99s
1/16 mile: 5.37s
1/8 mile: 8.27s
1000ft: n/a
1/4 mile: n/a

Well, last weekend sucked. The drag strip cancelled this weekend's 2 days event due to bad weather and I wasn't aware of it (the weather wasn't that bad either, especially the day I got there. Did 50 km only to be greeted by a huge fence without a single soul in sight...

Hopefully next weekend I'll get lucky with the weather :)

I went to the track last Thursday. I still have stock exhaust and the stock air intake boxes. However, I have Velossa Tech Snorkels that feed the stock airboxes pretty well especially at speed.

I managed an uphill 1.94 60 foot, 4.12 0-60 mph, 7.964 1/8, and 12.29 1/4 mile. That was with E28 on Map 3. I was pretty happy with that but I am going to try to go much faster this week with the EWG wires.

Great result Travis. All of my times are with 1ft enabled. Obviously doesn't impact the 80-120kph, but it does for the rest. Compared to your time, mine aren't exactly all that great. You have a much better 0-60 compared to me and I'm AWD and you're not. That makes it even more surprising. I guess MAP 3 really makes that much of a difference compared to MAP 1.

Map3 is miles above map 1. Map 2 also wakes up quite nicely. Map1 is like doing a chip on a non-turbo car. You can get 5-10 hp kind of thing, and you kind of notice it a bit, but it's not amazing. You need map2+ to really feel it.
