I downloaded the installation files to an SD card, then removed the OEM SD card and replaced it with the one I just created. Finally got it all installed.

NOW ... Do I leave the newly-created SD card in the Nav, or do I return the OEM one to the slot?

Reason I wonder is if I had used a USB device instead of the SD card to install the update, the OEM SD card would remain in the slot.

Now I kinda wonder if returning the OEM card to the slot would revert my Nav back to the previous version (?)

It's unlikely to revert the firmware but the maps might roll back

I am just using the other card I downloaded the updates on and am going to do the next update on the original card and then use that one again.
At the moment I am using the original card in my camera.
I think if you put the old card back in after doing the update, it will not have the correct map information

Yep, I guess I'll just leave the card in that I wrote the updates to.

Either way, I'm glad to see Kia stepping up and letting us update our systems for free, instead of charging $200 or whatever.

As usual, I'm confused. The instructions say to load the downloaded update (which is on my PC hard drive) onto a standard sized SD card or a USB storage device. It specifically says not to load onto a micro SD, which is what is in the 2018 Stinger's dash port. So I thought I would have to use the USB only, and follow the prompts after plugging it into the Stinger. There were no instructions on the tutorial about what to do with the existing Micro SD. Thanks for any help here.

The car has a standard size 32MB SD Card-- not a Micro. You can also install an update right over the previous version on the original SD card. On my first update, I bought ($25) the Kia update SD Card. Now I just switch between the two cards. I've updated 4 times now on my 2019 GT2-- never had any problem.

Thanks. You are right, it is a std card. My confusion. So, do I use an adapter to download from my PC USB port to the OEM card?

I actually DID use a micro SD card (in an adapter), and it's working fine.

But to answer your question, if the files are on your computer's drive, you will need a card reader to transfer them to an SD card.

By the way, I see some interesting changes in the new version:

- The 3-D Nav view includes a lot more sky, and there's no way to adjust the angle of view like in some of my previous cars.
- The street names seem to be clearer and easier to read.
- Map colors have changed, and two of the three options are way too dark for me. Milk it is for me.
- All the menus are now in different colors, aren't they?
- The radio stations are now displayed in vintage radio tubes like in Hyundais (how many young owners won't have a clue what they are? lol)
- The general layout and the method for saving radio stations has changed.
- You can actually delete presets now!

There's probably more, but that's what I've noticed so far.

Well, I discovered that the sky-to-horizon ratio is zoom-dependent, so you get less sky and more map as you zoom out.

What's really intrigued me is the way Android Auto has been implemented. The icon is gone from the menu. That is, until you plug in your phone. Then, the "Phone" icon in the lower part of the screen in Home mode turns into an Android Auto (or presumably an Apple Carplay) button. Touching that opens up a nice colorful menu page with some more-recognizable icons. And an Android Auto icon mysteriously shows up on the Connected Devices menu. Who thought this was intuitive?

I have to admit I miss the old colorful icons for everything - and the Android Auto icon being in the Setup menu. I can get around this setup, but not without some work.

Ah, progress ...

Do any of the nav programming (address book, etc.) features improve? If I don't like the new map/interface, can I plug the OEM SD card back in and revert?

Sorry, I can't answer either of those. Previous destinations and saved destinations are still there of course, but I can't speak to the rest.

I was really, really hoping the update would implement wireless Android Auto/Carplay, but apparently not. It may need some additional hardware to do that (?)

I did notice some things I hadn't noticed before, like doppler radar (which is very poorly implemented and pretty useless IMO), Sirius XM Traffic, Weather, News, Sports, and Stocks. They may have been there before, but I never used them.

I'm just perplexed by the poor hybrid Kia/Hyundai jumbled interface.

One other note: I hate having to fiddle with cables, etc., to get to Android Auto, but once there, it's magical how you can do searches and set destinations based simply on keywords or one-step addresses, without having to go through endless menus ("Navigate to Roswell, New Mexico", instead of "Find POI, Travel, Community, City Center, Roswell, New Mexico" or whatever.). And you can use the Google Assistant to answer questions and give additional info on people, things and places you see as you travel, without having to pull your phone out.

I'm fairly sure the "Data Services" like HD Radio weather, XM fuel prices, Sports, etc. have been there since the beginning, at least they were when I got my car in 12/2019 with software from 6/2019. They're largely useless, yes.

It's unlikely an update will ever enable Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto as they rely on Wi-Fi hardware that, as far as I know, only came in the 2018 cars (and later disabled). If it's there in the 2019+ models, it's been very deactivated.

I agree that the instructions on the SD card (whether to buy a new one from Kia, buy a new generic one, or use the OEM one already installed in the car) were pretty unclear. In the end I just popped the OEM card out of the car and installed the new software on it via my computer. I was a little nervous about over-writing the original card but I figured if it went tits-up I could always just buy another card from Kia anyway. When I re-inserted it in the car it immediately recognized the new software and offered the option to perform the update. Everything went smoothly.

For those who haven't done it yet, the instructions say to perform the update with the engine running. I started the car, then inserted the SD card. The update takes about twenty minutes, with numerous pauses and apparent freezes where nothing appears to be happening and a couple of system reboots. Have patience...despite the frustrating lack of progress indications it all ended well.

Just did this today while taking the car for a spin. When everything was done, the navigation seemed to have wet the bed! It has a message that "navigation was initialized unsuccessfully". Or something like that. I have taken the SD card out and put it back in, turned the car on/off. Nothing so far. Anyone else had this issue? Everything else seems to be working fine. The display colors are from the newer 10" screen. Haven't played with it yet, but was wondering if more ambient colors were added. That would be nice!

@Kr33m0: One possible explanation for your outcome might be that the car was being driven during the update. A big part of the process involves initializing the GPS, and the fact that the car was in motion during that time could possibly prevent the GPS from fixing a position. When I did the update I had the car parked in the driveway with the engine running and a clear view of the sky (i.e. the satellites).

It will be interesting to hear if any others were able to successfully do the upgrade while the car was moving.

Don't know if this is a factor or not, but I noticed the download to my PC created a new folder. I copied the files WITHIN the new folder to the SD card, and not the folder itself. There is an apk. file that installs the new Nav software, and it needs to be at the top of the file "tree". Maybe you copied the whole folder and it can't find the apk (?)

Otherwise, your files may have gotten corrupted somewhere along the line, and you might need to start over again with the download from Kia.

Just for grins, I copied the contents of the original SD card to my PC, just in case I might want or need to revert to the older version for some reason. Insurance, you know. ;)

I also copied the new Nav files back to my original (OEM) SD card and put it back in the car. Everything is working fine.

There's probably more, but that's what I've noticed so far.
I noticed a couple weeks back that if you turn the right radio knob, the map zooms in and out (instead of showing the names of preceding and following audio tracks).
