Recently I filled my tank and after driving 200 miles it read 1/2 tank, so I decided just to be sure I stopped for gas once again. This time it took 13 gallons. How could I have a 1/2 when it only holds 15 gallons.

Took it into the dealer and was told that they couldn't address the problem until it happened again. Just keep track of my mileage and bring it back when it happens again. Has anyone experienced similar problems.

Wow, you must be hammering on that thing! 13 gal to go 200 miles is 15.4 MPG
I typically get around 300 miles per tank getting about 21 MPG with mixed driving.

Keep an eye on it like they say, I've never had the fuel gauge go wonky on me in my 5000 miles.

Thanks for the info. I only have 2100 miles. Will keep my eyes open.

Norm, check out this thread, sounds like you may have the same issue.

Update!
Well decided that I had to take my Stinger in for this gas Gauge issue. It's been two days and no definitive cause. Kia of Downtown Los Angeles is consulting with Kia. I also must say I couldn't get a loaner until they have a cause. Crazy !
Just got a call from my dealer. Seems the tech found a detached baffle in the gas tank. Ordered a new tank and scheduled a rental car. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I’m having same issue with my 2021 Kia stinger that only has 350 miles on it. Car completely shut off on me and wouldn’t turn back on. Mind you I only had the car for 4 days. Dealer called and said I didn’t have gas but my gauge shows I had over a half a tank left waiting to head back

Exactly the same issue I am currently having now on a 2021 KIA Stinger GT V6 AWD I just purchased brand new on Feb. 11,2021. It started on the first week I had it and the gas gauge shows 3/4 full with about 130miles left to empty. then it died on the freeway because it ran out of gas. UNBELIEVABLE !!! I have been driving in the U.S. since 1975 and never ever run out of gas in any of the many vehicles I have owned and driven. So I brought it in at Concord KIA where I bought it and it stayed there for a week, and they have me pick it up and said everything was fixed. Yah, right! It was still doing the same thing after I picked it up and believe it or not, I ran out of gas again !!! RIDICULOUS!!! So it is back with the dealership again for the third time and it has been about 3-weeks now and they finally have a KIA technician from their So. California office come over and diagnose it and they decided to order the whole instrument cluster, which is according to the KIA Motors Consumer Center: "The FTS has authorized the dealership to replace the cluster as the FTS suspects there is an internal failure within the cluster".
At this point, invoking the Californian Lemon Law will be my next course of action, since KIA does not even have an ETA of the part.
Hence, I had it since Feb. 11, over 9-weeks now, but over 5-weeks of that is with the dealership.

## this is aimed at adizon... not the OP. LOL

UNBELIEVABLE THAT SOMETHING MIGHT FAIL IN A CAR.

DAMN YOU KIA. BUUUURN IN HELL KIA.

jfc. Shit happens.

every manufacturer’s line up will have some failures.

yes. Kia dealerships/service centers suck. Did you not realize you were buying a Kia? Did the thought not occur to you?

stop acting like your firstborn was just murdered.

call Kia concierge.

be respectful. Insist on a loaner (equivalent car, not a rio)

explain the run around.

it will get fixed.

Any damage from running out of gas on these cars?

Don't know yet... The car has been with the dealer most of the time since I bought it and it is still there as we speak... I will have to bring that concern with the dealership.
BTW, I did ask for another Stinger for a loaner car, but the dealer said they cannot do that so I ended up with a Nissan Altima from Enterprise Rental car and the gas gauge works much better (LOL)

I have been dealing with the KIA Corporate customer relations personnel from day one when this happened and they have already escalated the case to "higher level". Actually, the KIA corporate personnel has been the one giving me the updates and none at all from the KIA dealership...
I have been respectful to all of them and patiently waiting for any results... so far, none!!!

Same issue here with a 2021 GT1. First time it happened they said it was a bad wire in a connector. It seemed to work until it got to the half way mark and stopped again, this time they tell me they're replacing the instrument cluster. I only have 800 miles (300 of those were put on by the dealer) on it and the gauge has never worked properly.

Same deal here, ran out of gas. They said they fixed it (bad pin in a connector) then it happened again - ran out of gas on the highway. I was even being careful and monitoring it for weeks (not driving much due to COVID) then got complacent. Based on the 'miles out' from my last service and average of 300 miles on a tank I thought I had 100 left when I started and would have 70 left when I got home. Nope. Either the miles out was not quite right, or more likely they didn't completely fill the tank before returning it.

Now I am waiting on an instrument cluster. One more thing goes wrong and I am going to ask for a replacement under my state's lemon law. Currently rocking around in a base-model Nissan Versa from Enterprise which is basically a milk crate with a CVT mated to a gutless lawnmower engine. And I thought the base K5 they gave me last time was bad

Oh wow. It sounds like a common problem with the Stinger then? This was exactly the same response I got from the dealer that it was some connector issues, which I was very doubtful about as an engineer and someone who has been working with cars for over 55 years now. So when it happened again after a few days when I got it back, I have to tell them that it was either a defective float or the instrument cluster, but the dealer and the KIA tech from the corporate office won't believe me and they did the same connector BS again and have me drive it home for a few days to test it out and guess what, it did not take care of the problem at all. So for the third time it is with them again and this time they finally decided to order the cluster which has been on order for almost 4weeks now and still no ETA for the part. I have a 2020 Nissan Altima SR from Enterprise which works more dependable than the brand new Stinger and it tells me exactly how much gas I have and when to fill up. Time to switch to another brand... GTR...

How is your Stinger gas gauge issue? Is it fixed?

Hi Crispin,
Have they fixed your Stinger yet. Mine is still in the dealership.

No, I took mine home and have been waiting over three weeks for a new gauge cluster from Korea. I tried contacting Kia corporate but all they did is call the dealer to ask about status and were no help otherwise. Driving a thirsty car with no gas gauge in an area with empty gas stations has been....exciting.... Still better than driving the base Nissan Versa they put me in though - that lasted a day before I asked for my car back :D

I just want to doublecheck something in this thread really quick. For my 2020 Stinger you have the actual dial that moves an arrow from empty (on the left) to full (on the right) on the dash. You also have miles left to drive displayed on the top center before it hits zero. Do your dials fail but the miles are accurate? In other words if the arrow says you have half a tank of fuel remaining but the numbers are showing 20 miles left or are both not working properly?

This is pretty scary as I'm getting ready for my 1500 mile road trip down south lmfao!

Oh wow. The dealer wanted to keep my car in their shop while waiting for the instrument cluster. KIA Corporate already sent me a settlement offer last week for the car with 3 options and we are waiting for the completion of the cluster replacement before finalizing which offer I will accept. Actually, I am quite ok with the Nissan Altima Type R rental/loaner they provided, the gas gauge works great and it makes over 40MPG and runs decent (although I would have preferred at GTR - LOL). You may want to KIA to escalate your case, which is what happened to mine.
The saga continues...
Thanks for your update.

Did you handle this yourself for the settlement offers sent or needed an attorney?
