• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Stinger owners in the GTA - How much do you pay for oil at a Kia dealership? Also, which kind of oil do you get?

I've been spoiled for the last few years, driving a BMW that had free oil changes. I don't know how much these things are now!

I've gotten quotes for a maintenance package to possibly purchase with the Stinger, that which I will soon take possession.

They seem expensive! I know Stingers take 7l, which seems like more than the average oil change, so I guess it would be a bit more, I just can't seem to find on the internets any pricing for oil changes, at any dealer's website.

$22.95 plus $3.00 environmental fee.
I provide my own oil and filter.

Just to be clear, the dealer charges you 30 bucks for oil and service? Which dealer is this if you don't mind me asking?

EDIT: Duh, you bring oil

yours wasn't included in the price? when I got mine, it came with a 10 yr, 100,000 mile warranty, which rick case doubled to 20 yr, 200,000 miles and free maintenance for the original 10 yr warranty. my challenger on the other hand, came with the first year of free service. most times the oil change, if you don't bring your own like 'ghost, will probably run you the usual $100/hour (approx.) plus the oil. figure a couple hundred bucks. but, and I don't know if they do this in your area, every 3-4 months I get fliers from the dealership offering oil changes for like $75 bucks, brake service for $100 per axle, etc.

Service does not come with the price, and I have never been able to successfully negotiate this kind of thing free, ever. I think it's my negotiating tactic. I brow-beat them until I get the lowest price for the car, then I go for incidentals, which I find by then they are not as willing to give for free (discounts for sure, but not free).

In any case, I decided not to go with the service package. Too expensive for the price; even though it turned out cheaper per visit, I feel I wasn't getting enough of a discount for the commitment of buying them all at once.

Each dealer varies, but the car takes 7.2L of lube oil and the oil cleaner element kit is quite expensive at $20-something a pop, so on average the dealer price for an oil service is usually around $100-$120 as they have to remove one belly pan to get at the oil drain plug. You might be able to get it done a bit cheaper at an independent.

I do my oil services myself so I can take my time, let the oil drain longer, replace the drain plug washer, and make everything clean from the oil filter cap to under the oil filler cap. If you're mechanically inclined and have two jacks or Rhino Ramps, it's quite do-able.

I should share an oil analysis report I had done earlier this month. I ran synthetic for 11,500km all winter and then got the oil condition checked.

Do you go to Master Tune-Up on Salem/Bayly?
No. I go to my local Kia dealer. I dont want to mention their name just in case other dealerships are watching...but you know I live in Ajax right?

Yes, I know which dealer you go to, and it doesn't matter. All these dealers are independently owned and operated, so they can set whatever price they want and do whatever they want, as long as it satisfies the customer, and the filter and oil you bring meets and exceeds OEM specifications. $30 plus sterwardship is very fair, I commend that dealer for doing the right thing and retaining a customer.

Yep. I gave that dealer the chance to quite me his best price when I was looking. He wouldn't budge off MSRP. I told him that I don't pay MSRP. Ended up buying from a west end dealer but do all my servicing at this place. They treat me very well and the owner is very friendly towards me. There are no hard feelings.

Yes, the Egyptian owner haha

In bowmanville, there's a small shop that'll do it for $89 plus tax with Big Red Full Synthetic. Liberty Lube is about $120, taxes in. I went there first one, cause my stepson works there and his boss was at our house around that time for his Birthday, and went there. It's a nice shop too, but my stepson said just buy the oil and he'll do it on his time. I'm looking for deals on oil and we'll do it ourselves.

Lube shop place.

Mobil 1 Synthetic is on sale this week at Crappy Tire, 4.73L jugs. Just buy some Genuine Kia oil cleaner element kits and you'll be fine. What brand of oil cleaners were they using at these indie shops? To my knowledge, the only aftermarket brand making oil filters for the V6 is the Wix brand (good brand too). Mahle makes the OE Kia kit.

what's an oil element kit ?

I'm considering signing up account with Amsoil and buying in bulk, to have for the year. I believe the oil filter used is Wix

Walmart has a box of Mobil1 3x 4.7L jugs for $89... I bought it before the crappy tire sale
I paid $51 for everything except the oil that I provided

One of my coworkers has an account. .. I can get you a price if you want....
I was going to use it this time around but haven't seen him in months (he lives in KW) and I didn't feel like making the drive just for oil

My next oil change is free cause I referred my local dealer to someone who bought a new Seltos ST model and offered me some referral fee and I said I don't need it, he insisted, so I said I'll take it as a full synthetic oil changes.
but moving forward, I am on the fence whether I go amsoil or just the normal stuff and save some $..
Sure, get me a price for their O.E., in whichever way it comes cheaper, either buying 12 bottles, or 12 jugs, etc.. I recall they have bundle options.
I believe their member price for case of 4 x 3.78L is $106 (approx. $50 for 1 oil change). plus filter. Also, gotta pay some fee to be a member. I guess it's bes to order 4 cases of 4, and have for the year.

But how I'll get it ? gotta meet up somewhere, and you gotta meet up with him.

I had a membership with Amsoil not too long ago. At the time, I needed oil for my bike and a friend's bike, and the oil plus a 1 year membership was cheaper than the same oil straight-up from Crappy Tire. So it might be worth it if that's the way you want to go.

BTW I started this thread fully intending to bring my car in for this service. I've since had a change of heart. I figured the best way to do it is by yourself!

So I went and ordered an oil extractor (to suck the oil up from the dipstick hole), a set of Race Ramps (to help take out the oil filter, and possibly drain from under if I don't think the extractor has sucked out enough), a Wix oil filter element, and 8 litres of Motul 300v 5w30 race oil.

Now all I have to do is hit 5k on the odometer!

... and keep the receipts and a record of when oil was changed - for warranty purposes.
