Does anyone know if the auto folding mirror feature is automatically shut off in colder temperatures? At what temperature?
My mirrors stopped folding when I lock the car. Wondering if this coincided with the weather. Also how or where do I find the menu that controls this feature?

You’ve probably inadvertently hit the switch that controls this, the one at the top that says auto I’m sure controls this function.FFD9C08A-315F-4E9A-916A-8A21E814A5E8.webp

Yup, that’s it alright. Press the auto button and normal service will be resumed.

Oh shit thanks. I feel like a dumbass
I did the same thing, it took me a minute to figure out what happened. On the bright side I'm really happy it happened because being able to turn it off is great when you're washing the car, also great to close them when driving into a narrow garage spae.

So what happens when your mirrors are frozen and they try to unfold themselves? Isnt that bad for the motor?

they should have something built in that will stop the motor if it encounters too much resistance. I would keep your mirrors unfolded in the winter.

Hi ALL - I looked closely at this mechanism, there is some rubber sweep / lip that will try to sweep off dirt / debris from between the swiveling mirror and the base of it - however when there is ice there it will try to still move and crack the ice, has anyone experienced any issues with the folding mirrors and freezing temps? I need to fold them even in freezing temps because it helps get between the cars in the garage...

Any bad experiences with the folding of the mirrors in cold weather? anyone?

We don't get a ton of ice down here, but twice this winter my car has been covered in ice in the morning, with the mirrors folded, they opened up fine but the sound of the ice crunching wasn't pleasing to the ear. No issues though.

On a different car I had with auto fold mirrors that were frozen and would not open via the mirror motor , I found opening them manually caused no harm to their operation when temperatures warmed up

I had a 2014 KIA Optima SX Turbo for more then 4 years and never had any issues with the auto-folding mirrors in the Winter. I am in Northern Virgina, and while we do not get a bunch of real cold days/nights here, we do get our fair share. Like right now the lows are in the single digits...

What would be smart is to have some sort of reversal mechanism or a trigger point of resistance to prevent them from forcing themselves open or shut - i.e. try to open or try to close and stop if there is resistance - I guess I'll find out this winter up here in Canada:eek:

My wife had a problem with her mirrors after some freezing rain and I told her that it is probably a switch to control them. She's had the car 9 months and still can't figure this car out. A simple search on here and answer found. Thanks all.

Just want to say, tonight I accidentally hit the folding switch tonight folding the mirrors, just as I started the car (don't ask me how I managed this). Then sat there wondering like an idiot why mirrors were still folded (I thought they never unfolded when I unlocked the car) when I went to put it in drive and go. So I manually folded them out, came home and started looking for a fuse thinking my mirrors malfunctioned. When I couldn't find anything, I went on here and found this thread. Problem fixed...... but I still feel like an idiot LOL

I occationally hit that button when there is a small room for me to open the door and get in.

There is also a limit switch in the mirrors to prevent motor burnout when iced up, etc. Of note, Canadian pricing for an OEM mirror is about $2400 for the fanciest / full-featured mirror. Crazy.

Another tip for you all if you wish to take it - I turn off the folding down mirrors, the reverse mirror folding feature in the winter because I learned last winter that they can get stuck and I don't want to damage the folding capabilities of the mirror - the auto dim, blind spot monitoring etc come to be about $ 600 for the mirror glass only, crazy.

Not likely the switch, probably in the mirror or the wiring harness in the mirror.
