I asked about extending the 5yr/60,000mi Limited basic warranty to 10yr/100,000 mile to match the powertrain coverage. The dealer identified the Platinum Protection Plan for $2,568. Has anyone purchased this and did you pay this price or get for less?

I'd roll the dice on that one. $2568 is a lot of money for repairs 5 years from now.

In reality it is probably 2-3 years extra coverage (12500 miles annually would get to 100000 in 8 years)

Those warranties they try to sell you ARE negotiable but I never buy

At the very least wait until 5 years have gone by and then decide. You will still be able to buy a warranty then. You will have a far better idea of how the car has been and if you think you need it. Plus for all you know the car gets totaled year 4, or you sell it year 5 and that is just a couple Grand down the toilet..

Check what all is covered. If this extends all the tech to a 10yr warranty, you might think about it.

For anyone asking about extended warranty think of it this way if you plan to keep your car long term.

Woyld you rather have warranty on your car for the first 5 years or the second 5 years. Kia gives you it for free for the first 5 years.

20,000 components. 1826 days of wear...

Kevin, just saw your post, some I may be a little late here. The extended warranties from KIA/Hyundai are excellent. I had one on my 2012 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate and it paid off over the 90,000 miles I owned the vehicle. (e.g. theInfotainment/Navigation is only covered 3 years/36,000 miles) HOWEVER, I have never paid "list" for a factory extended warranty. I negotiated the 10yr/100,000 Platinum down to $1,500 on my new Stinger. There is a huge markup on these products and my comment to the finance guy is always, "Do you want to make something or do you want to make nothing?"

Yes, it covers all the tech such as Infotainment/Nav that only has 3yr/36,000 coverage in the basic new vehicle warranty.

Just so you guys know besides being a car guy my main job is financial and extebded warranty is part of my job. In Canada though so dont know how much is the same. But ask away

The value is there for the warranty if you plan on keeping it for exactly the reason stated by ERS the infotainment system, and all attached systems ie bluetooth & backup camera, is only covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Kia/Hyundai warranties are about the best in business, because they are amongst the most reliable, but lets face facts all cars only have 2 things in common: They depreciate and they break.

The extended warranties on Kia and Hyundai are definitely worth it. But you have at least three years to think about it, by that time you should not pay full price. When we leased our 2015 genesis I asked about it the finance guy told me if you intend to keep it wait till the end of the lease I don't pay more than 1500 bucks. I definitely stay with Kia or Hyundai because the warranty is at the top of my list. Well leased the Genesis A month after my wife but a VW bug 2015 asked about the extended warranty and they wanted $3500 we passed, Lucky if she puts 3000 miles a year on it. We've had three Optimus , A SX , and 2 SXL , and now the Genesis which the lease is due on . At the time I thought I was going to keep all of them, my bad. So here we go again, went down to the Kia dealer wanted a snow white pearl GT 2 AWD . Have been waiting for weeks for them to find one in California, there are none in California they called this week said they found one in Portland, Long story short flying up with the salesman next Wednesday to pick it up, going to be a 600 mile test drive now that's what I call go in the extra mile I'm a happy camper . I'll get back to you on the test drive.

We just purchased our Kia Stinger yesterday, and we opted to put on a 10/100,000 Bumper to Bumper extended warranty on our new car. Came out to about $3200. A bit much especially when dropping over $50k, but it extends the 36/36,000 B2B out to 10 years, and we hope to have this car that long if not longer.

It's nice to have that peace of mind - and now you don't need to think about it again for the next ten years...

Wow, talk about going above and beyond. Sounds like you found a great Kia dealer. I wouldn't even expect that at a luxury dealer.

I just added the Platinum Protection Plan for $2,000 on my purchase just now. Finance guy said I can choose to cancel before original warranty runs out if I change my mind. Kind of debating whether I should keep it or not. One thing I did not think about much was the tire and wheel protection for $500.

Finally got it picked it up Wednesday in Portland drove it back to Folsom with the salesman good trip good weather great 600 mile test drive. Signed the papers on Thursday All good. Getting used to all the tech and driving modes don't wanna leave in sport all the time. The Mode that I like the best for just driving around is the smart mode. What I like about it is the throttle is just like driving a regular car where in all the other modes it's either heavy or too light but in the smart mode , when you put it to the wood it automatically goes into sport until you let off on the throttle , so far the only complaint I have is the heads up display when the sun is shining right it has a real annoying reflection on the windshield right between your eyes . I didn't notice it on the drive back from Portland because I turned it off it annoys me anyway so I think I'm gonna cut out a piece of fabric and put it right over the screen on the heads up display that should do it. For now I'm just enjoying the hell out of it . I can honestly say that there is one person with a BMW 440 I that won't be messing with us All of you who have gotten yours just drive it and have , fun be safe .

Can someone please explain how the "tech" items are lumped into the audio/entertainment warranty period of 3/36? Does this mean the blind spot, lane departure, etc, eye only have a 3/36 warranty. Not sure how those are being considered audio/entertainment? Bluetooth I could see...certainly not reverse or surround camera.

Please don't tell me that because the interface screen shows these items that they are considered part of the audio/entertainment. If so, then better get to negotiating that extended warranty. I'd wait till close to expiration too and shop around at that point. Or try to get a smoking deal if buying upfront

Again, comes down to how long plan to keep the car.

I still shaking my head if all the tech is in fact considered part of audio/entertainment. No way the NAV can be lumped in there.

At least now I have questions to ask the finance folks.

Yes- I purchased the same for the same price. It is comprehensive coverage for 10/100,000 and my dealer extended to 200,000 miles. (Which I'll never get to.) Covers everything on the car ; powertrain, interior, all electronics. My dealer says they will refund the difference should the car be sold or totalled prior to 10 years. I thought it was a great deal.

I was told basically the same thing . I do you know only thing is not covered our tires, brakes, and adjustments. Which off the top of my head the only thing I could think of on the adjustments his alignment . It's definitely bumper-to-bumper . And if I decide to buy it at the end of the lease or before I will definitely purchase it, but letting it ride for the first 36 months then buying it you going to save at least a grand .

All really interesting. I put a deposit on a GT2 RWD yesterday, (in shipment, Ceramic Silver, $48.5, so a bit off MSRP.) The dealership is pitching the usual add-ons (e.g., Xzilon Green protectant @ $900) plus the various vehicle protection and road hazard / tire and wheel protection planz. The terms for the vehicle plans were vague (TBD), the hazard/tire plan was pitched at $795 for 5 years "deluxe" coverage. I can live without either, but will consider a joint buy of Platinum vehicle plan with Deluxe tire plan. I'd appreciate any advice on a reasonable price/offer for that combined protection. Based on the above, sounds like that could go as high as $4K (for both) -- which I won't pay. Appreciate any input as to what's a reasonable offer for those packages.
