Radar Detectors / Waze Discussion

A device to notify you that you've already been targeted, your speed is locked, and you're about to be pulled over. Lol

I like the Radar Detector / Dash Cam, i just wanted to mention, when i test drove a Stinger GT, the navigation system warned me of speed cameras ahead, in audio of a woman's voice, which im told can be changed, my question is would the radar detector be more accurate and can it also detect mobile radar from police and those unmarked vehicles ??
Also, for those who own a Stinger with the feature i mentioned, can you share your experience ?

Yes, it can. I haven't used a radar detector in a long time but last I did, my detector was able to spot radar in moving vehicles both in front of me and behind me. My unit had a sensor in both the front and back (the piece that sits on the dash)...

1) hardly any cops use radar, most have moved to laser. Yes I know that most detectors can detect laser but by then it's too late. It's locked on by that point and they got you.
2) if you do get pulled over and have a radar detector. Prepare to get the worst ticket that cop can give you. I've found if your repectful tell the cop you know you shouldn't have been going that fast you can get off with a warning or a ticket for over 9 over instead of 20 over. 9 over doesn't hit your driving record or insurance.
No radar detector for me....

In BC if caught exceeding the speed limit by 30 KMH ( about 20 MPH ) you get a mandatory fine , your car gets impounded and you pay for the towing and storage ,plus your insurance is increased ...................

Ouch.
I got nailed once on a back road in Utah going 123 in a 55. Just had to pay a $300 fine.

I would venture to guess that this is very situational. There are quite a few radar detectors / laser detectors on the market that work very well in regards to "by the time you detect it you are too late". There are Jammers, delays, frequency , and many others out there that have upgraded with the technology. There is a system that grabs the laser and holds it return long enough to throw a reading so far out of wack that it would be unable to hold up anywhere. Plus take into effect the amount of times the officer has the gun on but doesn't have it pointed but would still be able to tell if you were speeding had your radar/laser detector not gone off. Factors like line of site and rain also place a large role. And i do believe at the beginning of the post the way I read it was more so to be funny and informative for those of us that do/will be using them.

The danger is not just radar as much as laser and detectors and jammers can't keep up methinks but here is an alternative which adds 'pizazz' to your Stinger. Also you will have a fashion plate of a car  -

Radar detectors are not a 100% guarantee no speeding ticket solution. I have always had a detectors for my cars but only use them rarely when feeling "spirited". They have saved me a few times from the occasional officer who is looking to fill his monthly quota.
Have had a Solo 2 for many years. Just purchased a Uniden R3 as well as a Blackvue dr750s dual dash cam as a welcome home present for the G2 I will be purchasing around March.

Trust me, all these theories and tricks and techniques you guys are throwing around DON'T WORK against an officer running LIDAR. Outside of an active jammer, which are 100% illegal in the U.S. and WILL get you arrested, the only real way of beating the laser is observant driving of traffic up ahead so that you can slow down before you get into the optimal range of being targeted.

What we really need is radar detector detector detectors... I just thought of a new idea for a website. :p

Anyway... Some radar detectors use a social network - which works similar to "Waze" where people can easily mark areas where there are police watching. These devices will pick up those without the latest laser technology on their own - and depend on other people reporting everything else. It's better than having no protection at all.

I have no radar protection at all.

I just upgraded to a Uniden R3 and am very impressed. No Blendmount for it yet, though.

Wow. Hardly any point getting a fast car. I’d like to bring it to the track but I fear the conversation with insurance.

There are track days available at many race tracks and at private racing country clubs, the latter is more expensive. Both have track day insurance available. Another option is SCCA Autocross. I am looking into both in the Atlanta area. Also, going to show it off and Caffeine and Octane, where gearheads of all type go to show off their wheels.
