Pulled these from the recent Consumer Report mag , pretty relevant as winter sets in with the arrival of "Northern" Stingers winter tires.webp HP Snow.webp

Thanks . I chose to go with Ultra High Performance All Season tires but with some guys living in more severe winter areas True winters may be the best option , just wanted everyone to see that there is a High Performance Winter caregory as well , I believe some dealers are reco'ing the Winter VS High Performance option . Doing some additional research pending everyones particular driving styles/environments might render some new tire options for some Stinger owners . You definitely want to get 100% performance 100% of the year !

Yes, absolutely - you always want the performance you paid for. And safety, as best as possible, at the same time...

I'm looking at the Sottozero 3 tires as well. Primarily because they're all TireRack currently has for the 19" OEM wheels. Certainly open to other (possibly more affordable) options, but not aware of any.
You realize those are run flats right ? the tire will work great in the snow but if punctured the warranty may not allow repair as dealers will argue the integrity of the tire has been compromised ....................

Do you mean repair of the tire? Pirelli's Road Hazard Warranty seems to address that, plus TireRack's Tire Road Hazard Protection.

My experience with runflats is they cant be repaired and they are a $$ premium vs regular tires , call Tire Rack to confirm . I swapped run flats on all my previous cars to regualr tires for these reasons as well as they have very rigid sidewalls which impacts ride quality . The consumer report guide in post 1 has other options that would work on the Stinger

Interesting. Consumer Reports puts the Nokian WR G3 in the winter tire category, even though it is a 4 season "All-Weather" tire (like the Michelin CrossClimate+).

Then again, CR also says the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 UHPAS tire performs very poorly in winter. But Tire Rack considers it the bench mark for winter performance in the UHPAS tire category. Go figure.....

What sizes are those? Also, what's a "performance tire"? I usually drive safely in winter plus 120 kmh is max in switzerland anyway, so I wouldn't need witner tires to go 270 kmh :P

There are several types of winter tires. They are all constructed with rubber compounds that stay softer in cold temperatures (under 45 degrees F in the US). Most of them don't perform very well on dry or wet roads. But they perform very well on snow and ice covered roads. The Performance winter tire category gives up some of this ultimate ice and snow traction to give you back traction on dry or wet roads. In a region that doesn't see lots of snow fall (where most of your driving will be in cold temperatures on dry roads) a performance winter tire is a very good option. Especially on a performance oriented car.

Oh i know what a winter tire is, I live in Switzerland :P I wondered specifically about "performance".

I wasn't really trying to explain what a winter is. I had to discuss winter tires in general to illustrate where the performance winter tire category fits in. A studdless ice and snow tire will do much better in conditions that match its category name when compared to a performance winter tire. But once you are on a cold wet or dry road the performance winter tire will soundly beat the studdless ice and snow tire in every measure.

Again , if you check Tirerack they will break it down by category to help consumers figure out which type of tire suits their driving conditions and environment ( no I dont own shares in TR , but they are a solid resource for doing research on tire selection )

If you live in North America here is a good chart to help you decide what type of tire you should purchase based on your geographic location:

Great find ! Bamm1 . where are you located ??

I am in the Northeastern US but it currently feels like I live on some sort of frozen tundra.
Ive seen it on the news , terrible ! mild and pissing rain here for the next week !

According to Pirelli's website the tires come in both regular and run-flat types. I am getting the "Kia Stinger winter wheel and tire package" which comes with these tires -- I sure hope it's not the run-flat variant (I'm guessing it wouldn't be, because they are more expensive??)

Question: pros/cons of 19" vs 18" and staggered vs non staggered for winter wheels? It was getting late in the day when we discussed this at the dealership and they just wrote me down for the 19" staggered setup. But I'm hoping I won't regret it..
