3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

Just saw this thread, nice to see Mishimoto onboard. would be exciting if you will do a complete kit, from turbo to throttle body. I see you got the cold pipe in there which is good, but if you can do the full hot-pipe would be great as well. I am sure there is something to be gained with a more efficient merge pipe on the hot side. At the moment it is a T design, a Y design will make the flow way better. FYI, in the porsche turbo, changing the T merge to a IPD plenum which is a Y merge gains +/- 20whp, if we can gain 1/4 of that I think it will be worth it.

UP tested the hot side pipes and found no gains. Only gains they found was cold side. I added their cold side pipe and found no gains! ☺

You are the FUD master.

And you can save $200 on the charge pipe unless you like the looks. I wasn't to heart broken it didn't perform, it looks good.

UP replaced the merge pipe as well? Also was the car running more boost? Do they have a before and after dyno?

In all cases we still need it, turbo upgrades will soon be on the table with a tuning solution so the hot side pipe will definitely show its limits sooner or later.

Johnny Tig includes larger hot side piping with thier ic.
UP made all the hot side for testing but only found the cold side had performance gains so that is all they sell. They said cold side only helped at higher boost levels and said about 10hp no dynos. They run Tork stage 1 so 18 psi.
I added my hot side pipe in the winter so about 19-20 psi and i didnt see any dragy 1/4 mile improvements with it.

10hp and the looks is good for me :D

I cant "see" what you are pimpin......so what is it? :) Wash

Just some fitment prototype intercooler pipes ;) We've got some cool stuff on the way

I dunno, a custom intake charge pipe isn't exactly stoking anything for me

Fair enough, I'll be teasing you with some cooler piping and intercooler things soon enough though

Air to water IC hopefully! We already have a few air to air options.
Nick (@Mishimoto): Have you guys done any measurements on the efficiency of the stock intercooler, so that you have before and after information on your product?

A WAIC would be interesting indeed. You can get some serious efficiency gains here - water has a specific heat rating about 4 times that of air (meaning it can absorb 4 times as much energy for the same temperature increase).

Of course, nothing comes free - a WAIC is much more complex, and with complexity comes expense and higher risk of failure (there are no moving parts in an air-to-air intercooler, which is one of the benefits it provides - basically zero maintenance, and nothing to "stop working" unless you physically compromise the unit).

Just going to answer these together, but the one thing that I can confirm is that there is not an A2W design in the works for this platform for us. Though it would be an awesome upgrade, it would be a huge undertaking (along with a big cost to you guys) to install an A2W system on something that doesn't already have one.

That all being said, when it comes down to doing our testing we'll definitely be running a comparison between our design and the stock components. We still have a few months on that but I'll be sure to keep you guys in the loop

We may or may not be doing just that ;) The choke point that is that junction pipe is one of the first things we noticed once we started digging into this project, and saw an opportunity to improve on this design

Good to know ;) I know that we'll be doing testing to determine the benefits to our new designs once they're ready, and I'll be posting them up here! Piping isn't necessarily about adding bolt-on power right off the bat, but rather increasing the flow, which give you room for improvement once tunes or big turbos are involved. Granted better flow does sometimes equate to more power on the stock tune, but it's not the most important factor.

@Mishimoto It is great to see you guys involved on this platform, been using your products on my Z for a long time.

Any idea if there will be an upgrade for the cooling system i.e: radiator, oil cooler etc?
These engines tend to run on the hot side.

+1 I'd be down for a better Radiator

HELLOOOOO MISHIMOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been 2 weeks any updates?

Nothing just yet! We're in the drafting phase at the moment, which just means a lot of modeling and triple checking of drawings to ensure that everything is perfect. This part does take a little bit so we won't see our first production samples for at least a month or two, BUT I'll have some more info coming for you guys either at the end of this week or beginning of next week, so keep an eye out for that!

I know it might seem slow moving at the moment, but it'll definitely be worth the wait! Thanks for the patience!

Will it be a full kit, or factory core replacement or will it have optional cold/hot pipes etc...

Thanks.
