So I read in this forum the the Canada version of stinger doesn't require the cell phone to be plugged in, and has the remote start/heating etc features in the app.

Is there a way to replace my infotainment unit with a canadian one so I can also get these features in my stinger?

I to hope there is an upgrade to do this.

You are correct that the Canadian UVO services work independently of a phone, and have their own built-in cellular connection for remote start, locking, status check, vehicle location, etc. - as well as roadside assistance and 'Google Powered' navigation search from inside the car.

As this relies on external connections and services in addition to the cellular hardware built in to the car, I doubt that is something that you'd be able to enable/activate with just a head unit change. Not even sure if the head unit is any different, actually - the U.S. market cars my already have the necessary hardware, but it's not enabled at this point.

Got it, that makes sense, I was still hoping that there was a way 'upgrade' the Stinger tech. This is the only disappointment I have on the Stinger. Other than that, it is a great car!
