Would love to know what year mini you had. I just did a quick check of 2010 & 2012, and they both say 89 minimum *required* but 91 recommended.

It was a 2012. No S, just regular Cooper. I thought the req was Premium. Guess not.

At any rate, I've always found the price of mid-grade to be more expensive per "unit" octane than Regular or Premium, so I have never bought it.
Didn't mean to misinform.

In Australia we have 91/95/98 octane fuels. I run 98 in mine and get more power and more miles to a tank. I presume the numbering system is different in US so a 93 = 98?

Yes - North America uses the AKI (Anti Knock Index) rating vs the RON (Research Octane Rating) using in Europe and AUS. 98 RON = 93 AKI.

Just traded my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport (same 3.3 turbo motor) and used regular fuel exclusively without any problems.
I intend using regular in my GT2 also. It won't cause any problems, and saves money over the years.
Why throw money down the drain for premium, unless you really get on the go pedal a lot. I don't.

Any issues going back and forth between fuel grades? Say in the winter I'll use 87 cause the roads are icy and covered in snow so you ain't gonna be driving fast anyways. But in summer switch to 91 as the roads and weather conditions are much better and you can go zoom zoom.

No issues.

In fact, I just took a fifteen hundred mile round trip to corpus and back, alternating between 87, 93, and 91. No issues and no difference in fuel economy. I just used 87 when I knew I'd be cruising on control at 85 on I10. No need then for max tq or hp.

I yours a GT or a 4 cyl?

I have never seen such a heated and passionate topic debate than which fuel to put.

Yes, it runs the whole spectrum from on point to couldn't be further from the truth. All cited as fact by the member. Tread carefully, lol

93. The car is more efficient and operates the way it was designed. 91 octane is not typical in my area in case you are wondering.

Also the more money I pay for gas more than likely compensates for the long term damage and maintenance cause by running 87 in a direct injection turbo motor not designed for it when running nominally.

I am using 94 octane and it's so much better on gas mileage.

Do you have numbers to back that claim? You would have had to use a lesser grade fuel for awhile to make that comparison. Not doubting you, but there tends to be a lot of placebo effect when people start talking about using this or upgrading that.

Yes, a full tank of 87 octane gas gave me 13 L/100km while the 94 octane is currently giving me 9.6L/100km with mixed driving on both.

Interesting. Alright, I will have to give the 94 a try. Been using 91 since I acquired the car a year ago. Very mixed results on fuel economy but definitely worse during the winter season. During summer time, I was averaging about 12.5-13.5 L/100km; in the winter that has shot up to 15.5-16. I do about 95% city driving. Just recently tried 87 and 89 and did not see any significant fuel economy difference with the same driving behaviour and settings, so leaning to do 87 in the winter and 91 in summer. But I will try 94 and see if I get similar numbers to you. Also have to factor in how much more I'd pay per fill up and see if it's worth it.

Considering you are in GTA, the price of 94 Octane would be super high. Come to Alberta my friend. :D

I'm certain this isn't the first one I've posted in this thread..
