Hey guys I’m just wondering if your stingers make a noise on cold start like mine does. It’s kind of like a higher pitch sound. It starts like 2 seconds after the car starts and does it for 10 seconds or so then fades away. Kind of sounds like a pump or something. Mine has done this since new now has 1600km on it.

I’ve heard something similar then realised it was only me squealing with joy. But seriously no. Th only thing I sometimes hear is a low whine from under the bonnet which I’m hoping is just the power steering pump as I only hear it when turning the wheel.

turbos whine at start up, but generally not audible ....once the oil hits the bearing(s)......steering is electric at least mine is/ not sure it can make a noise.

It’s really hard to hear if windows are up. With windows down it sounds like a pump running and it builds of pressure then stops making the sound. I did google searches and found something similar with other kias just not the stinger. Most say it’s normal, and it’s coming from timing belt tensioner and other day electric power steering.

That’s quite possible, I just assumed there would be a power steering pump from previous cars I’ve owned. I don’t know it for a fact.

I think that's enough assuming for one night....lol

I also saw a YouTube video of a Kia with a turbo and it sounded very similar. They say waste gate opens to heat up the cats sooner. And you will hear it more with a intake or maybe downpipes.

Haha I don’t care what makes the sound I just wanna know if others have heard it before.
How cold is cold? and v-6 or 2.0

After sitting over night, does not seem to matter what the outside temp are and it’s a v6

I'm pretty sure its normal. My best suggestion would be to go on youtube and search "kia stinger startup" and youll find lots of videos you can compare to.

here's what I think, there may be a turbo bearing that has overheated ( awhile ago)...when started the metal is glazed so the it will whine until enough oil gets to the bearing......once there the whine disappears....I could very well be full of shit here....better to take it to the dealer and have them start it after it sits over night

It’s done it since day one...
I’ll take a video of it tomorrow.

So I took a video of the sound. I debunked the whole thing about it something just needed oil. I started it let it make the sound and waited till the sound stopped then turned off the car. I then started it again right after and it’s did the same thing just not as long as the rpm dropped faster. It’s probably a normal sound. This video is with window all the way down and in a parkade so everything sounds louder.

My V6 absolutely does the same thing. It has since new.

Hey guys I uploaded another cold start that shows the sound really well. Just wondering if more of you guys hear this. I have k&n panel filters and Jun Bl downpipes.

My car is definitely louder on a cold start. It makes some noises from the engine bay for 20 or 30 seconds.

But I've never heard a how/screech like yours did.

I usually drive as soon as I start my car. I also almost always have the radio on when the car is started, so it could be that I'm missing it.

Next time you do a cold start would you mind taking a listen to it? I’ve notice if you put it into gear it stops the sound.
