Well at least in NZ that 'loophole' has been closed and it seems we are like the US in that regard - it's basically a no no now.
I ordered my car with special build in September and received it OK. Now was just talking to the dealer who told me no can do again under instruction from Kia. I ordered without a sun roof with no price reduction. Now if you order they will add $3-4000 to take it out. WTF? Somebody at Kia brought the boom down and I can only think they can't have any disruption on the assembly line with changes so delete stuff and pay more. Go figure. :(

That must be what happened to me. I ordered a custom red GT1 AWD DriveWise 19" and it went into the system. Then it disappeared (see my other thread on "They Lost My Order.") Rather than alerting my dealer, it just vanished and no one said anything. Sold car and nothing communicated. Then someone on one of these forums who had some inside information said they do not take custom orders. Some NZ owners claimed otherwise, and earlier, that may have been true but apparently not now.

So reading between the lines, the Stinger plant is busy turning out new cars to their own anticipated specs and filling the pipeline. Since early buyers are snapping up the GT2's, other versions are sitting on dealer lots. The public hasn't yet awakened to the car outside of enthusiasts like those of us here. Other cars are not selling because of the speed limit on the 18" wheel models -- at least in the U.S. So they need to move some cars and then maybe they will entertain custom orders again.
