2019 3.3 AWD Stinger Ceramic Silver. 12,500 miles total. Driven normally. Front tires Michelin factory 225 40ZR19. Heavy outside edge wear, almost no edge tread left. HOWEVER...was told by a 'friend' that a lower speed rated tire would last longer, and the wheel "bulge" could be bigger ( I don't know these tire classifications ) to protect the factory rims.
Is this a normal wear pattern? Or were the tires never aligned properly? Did KIA warranty them? Suggestions on the tire width bulge?? What would those numbers be??

THKS. :)

You must be a more "spirited" driver than I am; but at 12.5K miles, only about half as "spirited" as a number on here who have had their rear OE tires shot by 5-7K miles, and the fronts not much more to go.

The "rib" on the Michelin summer tires is as good as it gets, as far as protecting the rims goes.

The 255/35 on the rear is the maximum recommended size for the OE 8.5" wide rear wheels (that's just a bit of added info I tossed in there). Getting less expensive tires means nothing aside from "you get what you pay for." Typically lower speed rated tires are less expensive: and the tire for a sporty vehicle is going to have much the same profile regardless of speed rating or cost.

My 225/40 OE front tires also wore heavily on the outside edges, especially the LF (the outside one on cloverleafs :D). I got near 19K miles out of them and worked them hard; the LF outside edge even peeled up in a small section at the very end of their life.

To increase wear in the center, on my second set of 225/40 Michelins I keep them inflated at 40 psi cold: it's still an experiment in progress, with c. 4K miles to go: last week (I think it was last week :p) I got my third set of rear 255/35, and second set of PS4S on the rear; both the last set and the first set (the OE PS4) went over 14K miles. The first wear bars to start to wear also were only on the outside portion of the RR: everywhere else I still had some tread left before the wear bars in the center or inside edge would be reached: not a lot, but I estimate that by the time the wear bars across both tires were reached, I'd have been down to the bottom of the outside RR wear bars (and not to mention the noise, which was already starting to be noticeable with just the outside RR wear bars slapping the road: I don't want to hear what all the wear bars howling would be like!).
