Just had to do the rear brakes on my wife’s 21 Telluride. I like the electronic parking brake on the stingers because they activate shoes on the drum inside of the hat on the rear rotor. The Telluride actually has a servo that compresses the piston. You have to remove that actuator and get the piston to move a little bit before you can actually compress it and install new pads. At first I thought both rear calipers were frozen. Took about three hours total for just the rear gonna attempt the front tomorrow. Shouldn’t be half as bad.

Is there not a requirement on these Kia's to put them in some sort of maintenance mode before doing the rear brakes?
I honestly don't know, so I'm curious. My Mazda with the EPB had to be put in maintenance mode first.
There are other makes that require the same procedure, if I'm not mistaken. Thx.

Could you not simply turn off the EPB? Vehicles I've had with EPB all have a switch that allows me to turn it OFF manually. Regardless of the type of actuation.

I didn’t have the EPB on while doing the brakes. And once you unplug and remove the actuator from the back of the caliper, it should compress no problem. I just had to use a 5mm Allen key to move the piston first, then it compressed. I got it all back together, plugged in the EPB, then took it for a test drive. Everything works as it should.
