Recently made a road trip from the Dallas area to the Nashville area (31+mpg). We were going to see relatives, but it included a Stinger review I have been waiting for.
I have two nephews there who have M3's (their dad is a "vet" man). They both track their cars and are also instructors at the track. So they have driven their M3's as hard as you can possibly drive one and have driven many other track cars for students. I wanted their impressions of the Stinger.
Well, I think they were expecting a KIA when they got into the Stinger. The very first impression from both when they drove was "TORQUE!" They couldn't get over the Stinger's torque and both said it had more low end torque than their M3's (one owns 6 and the other an 8 cylinder model). They both drove with paddles the entire time and had no problem with the Stinger's up-shifts, in spite of the fact they are used to an actual duel clutch setup. Coming off an on-ramp one moved around a car in front of us and bam, bam, bam........110 mph in a heartbeat. I was impressed!!!!!! They may have been also!
After that drive, I drove the 8 cylinder M3 and he was right about torque. It sounded and felt like a rolling thunderstorm, but didn't really have the jump of the Stinger at low speeds. I would prefer the Stinger over that M3 for a daily driver.
They gave the Stinger an A+ in all categories except downshifting with the paddles. That was their only dislike about the Stinger. Then again they are coming from actual duel clutch systems. They were honestly very impressed and not just being nice.
Their review of the Stinger was my main reason for the trip (but of course I had told the wife we needed to visit the family)!!!!! I already knew what they all looked like!
