Or should I start with: "to square or not to square?"
I am looking at a set of BBS rims 8,5x19 offset 35 all around.
First, is a square set up even recommended? I've seen mixed reviews searching the forum.
If I do square, do I keep stock tire sizes and just stretch a 225 over the 8,5 rim or go 255 all round?
Naturally I would be inclined to keep the car staggered as by design, but the BBS rims are a steal IMO, look nice and are lighter than stock

Any input is appreciated

"As by design" is both squared and staggered, so there is no distinction that way. It is personal choice. Do you want to rotate tires? Do you want a bit more sporty look and maybe feel? In my opinion, if you are getting a great deal on wheels that satisfy then the only decision is tire size. If it were my set of 8.5 offset 35 rims, I would not go with 225 unless I had to. That is the minimum width recommended for an 8.5 rim. Max recommendation is 255, anything wider is a stretch. From what I've read many times on here, that 35 offset with 8.5 will handle a 255 in front, obviously in the back is never a question for clearances. I would probably look at 255 all around because wider tires look better, and in most driving conditions they handle/grip better too.

Ok. Got it. Thanks so much for the detailed info. Yes, I would prefer going 255 all round simply for rotation purposes. The 8,5 255 fits in the front without a spacer? I've been reading mixed answers

From what I've read, yes. The offset is only 1mm more than 34 spec offset, and half of the .5" wider rim is shared on the inside. The rim itself is perfectly fine for strut clearance. Depending on the tire manufacturer variances, the 255 should clear even if close. Ima sure that in the worst case of a slight tire rub, hypothetically, a 5mm spacer would effect the needed clearance. I never make these decisions on my own, but use the professional tire and wheel shop guys to make sure.
