Is anyone using the rim blades or whatever their called? Good , bad, not worth it?

I haven't seen any recently. Last year, when I was curb rashing my front rims 
somebody showed me their Stinger with protective beads, in red, as I recall. As often as I was doing it, the cost seemed prohibitive to me! 
Furthermore, there was dissent on the fitment of these things: how at extralegal speeds they would slip loose and be a maintenance pain in the keister. I never seriously considered them as a solution: only parking more carefully/competently is the answer. If you want them because they look cool, that is a completely different angle.
