Wheel gap is purely aesthetic, I find certain carmakers pay more attention to it than others. BMW has always been good about it except on their AWD models. I prefer less gap personally but in some cases with sportier cars closing the gap can be tricky when ground clearance is already so low. I wont be lowering my Stinger strictly because of ground clearance, but the lowered ones I've seen do look great.
I like a practical wheel gap. That is determined by ground clearance. So if the car is already low enough, the stock gap stays (and the stock Stinger is already low enough, imho). Messing with larger OD is right out.
