Bad Nightmare Oil Change

So always read about the horrible dealship experiences on here and never had an issue at the Kia mall of Georgia in Buford(besides waiting 3 hours for an oil change). Until today. Got my oil changed under warranty, they even got me out 15 minutes early (should have known). I start driving down the high way get about 30 miles home and noticed white smoke. Pulled over into the nearest parking lot and I am just pouring oil all over the f*cking floor. Called up the dealer and they had nothing to say other than there sending a tow truck? Anyone else have an experience like this? Guess I should be lucky there’s still oil too leak but definitely more concerned about engine damage.

Sounds like they way overfilled it or didnt fully tighten the oil filter. Actually I bet they didnt seat the oil filter cap covering the filter or cracked it from over tightening it.

That’s assuming they even changed the filters. What would y’all do in this case I’m 30 mi away and they got a tow truck en route. Obviously they need to check for engine damage? But anything specific

Heard a similar story from a local Stinger owner, and oddly at a dealership that's normally pretty decent. Something about the oil filter or cover wasn't put on properly and it was just pouring oil out and started getting valve train noises before he was able to pull over and shut it down.

So they’re filling it back up with oil now. There was maybe half a quart left in the engine. More infuriating was I went to where they pulled my car around for me to leave and there is a massive puddle of oil and a trail mark leaving the dealership. You would think someone would have noticed seeing as it’s right in front of their door.

Thats just plain laziness on their part. This is why I do my own changes now, after I fill the car I make a point of running the car for 2mins, checking under the car and keeping an eye on the oil level. Clearly they did none of that.

Ya and they didn’t install the O-ring all the way. It had about two more threads till it would have been tight.

Hopefully the engine doesn't need replacement.

Basically The o ring was not screwed in all the way. It still had a few good turns to be in place. Less than half a quart of oil when the drained it. I didn’t see an metal shavings when we busted open the filter. Drove it 30 miles back home and around a bit more don’t hear any problems so guess we’re driving around extra ‘carefully’. Still under warranty so they didn’t seem interested in checking anything further.

That's some exceptionally sloppy workmanship from a dealer.

Pisses me off just reading it.

It's so so easy to install the oil filter correctly and completely

Ya I’ll upload all the pics tomorrow when I can get in a laptop. Strangely enough the tech was the only one who seemed genuinely upset and remorse about the mess.

What does it mean the oring was not screwed in? The oring is on the plastic filter end cap. Was the oring in the wrong groove, or the cap itself not screwed in all the way, or both?

Either is unacceptable from a dealership service (or any other professional paid for service).

Anyone having their car serviced anywhere should be at least checking oil level prior to leaving the dealership.

I hope folks know that only the greenest (and lowest paid) of techs do the oil changes at most dealerships. Supposedly under the watchful eye of someone who has a clue, but if busy, then not.

Did they damage your side skirts too?

I’m just as at fault for not noticing the massive oil puddle when I pulled out but doubt you would have noticed anything on the dipstick right away. Ya the picture I have you can’t see where the fault was but the cap wasn’t all the way down and Oring was half in the wrong grove it appeared. Disappointed as I had planned to go visit family and install some spark plugs and intakes this weekend but now gonna wait a few weeks to make sure nothing happens. 1st and 3rd pic was dealership parking lot by the door. And as I said you can’t really see how loose the cap was in the second picture.
