Newbie Question

Ok, First car with keyless entry. I seem to only get this to work if I hold the key in my hand opening the door. Doesn't sound normal behaviour?

Also I've enabled the smart tailgate but it doesn't appear to sense me there either...Am I missing something obvious.

Car is a UK Spec GT Line S model.

Battery? I know. It's supposed to be new. But I've wondered if the range on mine after over twenty months is starting to diminish. I know how far away I could signal the door locks before. Last time I tried, I had to step out of the doorway closer to the driveway before the doors would lock/unlock. So, I'd be looking into battery strength first. Holding in the hand is just coincidental, I think.
