I called to setup an appointment at Kia of East Syracuse to test drive a Kia Stinger and was told by a salesman that the dealership requires a credit check before the test drive. I abruptly turned down that nonsense and called Fucillo Kia in nearby Clay, NY where they invited me to come down, no credit check or appointment necessary. Due to the relaxed atmosphere at Fucillo Kia, I entertained talking about pricing even though I really had no intention of buying a car right away. After the usual back and forth, Fucillo Kia agreed to sell the car at invoice and Kia currently has 0.9% for 60 months financing running through the end of February 2018, so I decided to buy.

A few days later I happened to be on Bridge Street in East Syracuse so I decided to stop by Kia of East Syracuse to let the sales manager know why I had bought a car from Fucillo Kia instead of his dealership, which was closer to my home and had the model of interest in stock. The sales manager wanted to know the name of who I spoke with about needing a credit check prior to a road test, acting as though he had a rogue employee. I’ve since looked at reviews of Kia of East Syracuse online and found countless examples of other car buyers being required to have a credit check prior to the test drive, regardless of which Kia they wanted to test drive. The sales manager then told me that they’re selling Stingers for $500 under invoice at Kia of East Syracuse. I shook his hand and thanked him spinning such fanciful tales reminiscent of Kurt Russell’s performance in the classic movie Used Cars, and explained that anyone who asks me where to buy a Kia Stinger will be quickly directed to Fucillo Kia.
