Believe people online’s comment on octane level can only lead to catastrophic damage for your engine. Log the car yourself, ign1 and ign 2-6 will tell you which map is your limit with current gasoline in the tank.
For ON/QC, PC 94 is not that bad and should be able to support map2. For AB/BC, Shell 93 should be enough for map 2 and PC/Chev/Esso/mobil 94 should be enough for map1. Of course, with proper spark plugs, proper gap and enough torque when putting it back.
Those personal experience with pump gas brands above is not a rule to follow. It’s just a rough idea of which map you should keep your eyes on the log every single time after you floor the gas pedal. Pump gas’s actual octane level is all over the place when you cross compare different brands locally, and it can be night and day difference in another province/state. Other people’s experience with certain brand of gasoline only applies to him in that exact province/state or even only in that city.
@Yves998 said it best but I will provide my own experience for insight.
Please check your logs and track whats going on as you try different maps and gas in your area. I used Shell and BP 93 and it gave me terrible corrections all around, even if they are praised to be the best quality fuel. I went to get some e85 which raised my octane and my problems were gone. My point is, don't be so focused on the gas station itself but try to change locations and see what gives you the best logs/data.
