Hey all, did the install of the VT scoops yesterday. This was a big thing; it’s the most invasive work I’ve done on the car...well, any car, I guess, in about 20 years.

(I installed the JB4 a couple days ago, but that was so simple I didn’t even count it toward my “experience.”)

All went smoothly. Took me about two hours; I was taking my time and checking videos/instructions/forum posts throughout. The hardest part was honestly clipping that damn wiring harness off.

The only real tip I have for the folks who are unfamiliar with this sort of thing is with the clips: separate the top from its “base” with a knife or flat edge, and then pull up. They’ll pop our suuuuuper easy. I broke three or four before I figured that out, but I’ll order some more.

I can tell a small difference at speed; it’s not huge, but it’s noticeable. Car pulls more smoothly and enthusiastically when I mash the go button above about 30. I’ll post a screenshot of my best 0-60 here, but my technique is probably where I’ll get the most gains there (not to mention, I didn’t unload the family gear from the car before running it). I did not have the JB4 enabled for that run.

Anyway, fantastic upgrade, good Saturday morning project.

That looks great! Should have changed the fmic too while the bumper is out haha.

Thank you!

Works great too. I wanted to add that I was surprised by the improvement in mpg. Drove back home today—2 hour drive on 70 to the Beltway—and saw around 27-28 mpg.

I was running in custom, which for me is just sport with AWD and minimal fake engine noise. I wasn’t really driving any different than normal.

For comparison’s sake, the trip up last week got me 24 or so mpg in smart mode. That’s about right—I usually don’t see much above 25, regardless. Obviously, if I’ve got the roof rack attached with a cargo box, it’ll be less, usually around 23.

And those gains didn’t really hold once I got into city traffic (straight shot down Georgia to my house, for anyone who knows DC).

In any case, that’s a substantial increase in highway efficiency, and I bet I can get more with a light foot.
