I saw some videos of the new generation ambient lighting kits and they looked like a huge improvement over the past ones. The previous ones had one light source that lit up whole strip, new ones have small leds all along the strip. So they are much brighter and no hot spots, they even have multicolor ones that you can light up multiple colors along the length. I bought the ones from Amazon below for just over $40 and started the install this morning.
So far I did the dash lights, install was a breeze, I took the trim off but if I did it again i don’t think it necessary. Was thinking of doing OEM arrangement on top of dash but decided to try something different. Because of the dash contours I installed strips flat on surface of lower dash trim and not pushing into dash gaps. Here are a few pics.
I need to do doors next, I took a few pics of a few temp mockups. One is tucking into door gap, this method you can only run past the aluminum trim to end of door. The other one I played with is just surface mounting (not as clean) but going whole length of door. Not sure which to go with.
