If the purpose of the Idle Stop and Go (ISG) function is to save fuel, why then does the engine restart when I shift from D (Drive) to P (Park) (i.e. upon reaching my destination and wishing to shut down the engine entirely)? Is there a more efficient way to park the car?

Perhaps the shut down sequence of the motor can only be done correctly in Park. The ISG function may not leave the engine in an ideal circumstance to be off for long periods of time.

Check out a video on how it works (in general)

I don't know why that's the case either, and it's annoying as hell. Even basic things like coming to a stop and put the car in reverse when parking, it's super annoying

Just learn to turn the damm thing off when you start the car ... that’s what I did in my last car.

Manufactures should allow a “Start with it On / Off” mode in options.

They also say they cannot reprogram the car to start up in off mode .... but this bullshit as there are hacks online for merc’s, and I’m sure others too.
