As many of you have posted it seems like the dbw transmission will only stay in a set gear when in sport mode (but not my Australian model) however I have found a couple of ways to do it in all other modes. Now just to be clear this does NOT stop the transmission from downshifting when slowing down or upshifting if you hit redline (I haven't tried this) and applies to at least my Australian 3.3 GT so there may be some differences to overseas models.

What you can do is have the transmisison stay in one gear for an extended period without going back to "D" auto mode. So to give an idea what I am talking about let's say you are driving at 60kmh where 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear would be usable. Now left to it's own devices the ecu could possibly select 4th but it is possible to have it stay in 2nd without the ecu intervening.

And whichever method below is used it has to be done within each reset period before the ecu sets it back to auto which in my case is about 8 seconds. So about every 6 seconds you have to use one of these methods.

Now it can be done but whether the following ways are even worth the effort is up to each individual but at least there is a way if someone feels inclined. Both these methods are clunky but at least they seem to work for me. If done often enough they actually do not seem as complicated as they read.

1. When you are in the gear you want to stay in then very quickly lift your foot off the throttle so the ecu sees 0% throttle applied. This makes the ecu think you are coasting or going down hill so it won't change gear.

2. When you are in the gear you want to stay in then pull on the upshift paddle then release and then pull on the downshift paddle and release. The downshift paddle must be pulled quite quickly after the upshift paddle release. If you watch the gear indicator on the dash it shows the upshift gear followed by the downshift gear (which is the gear you want to stay in) but it doesn't give the transmission time to actually do anything so you stay in the same gear.
Now a few things with this method are:
1. You must have a higher gear to go to when you do the upshift. If not then when you do the downshift it will do a downshift.
2. Only an upshift then downshift works. If you downshift then upshift it always will downshift straight away.
3. This only works when you have throttle applied so 0% throttle will always respond to a paddle shift

I have heard that a new ECU update allows the car to stay in manual mode if you disable traction control and are in sport mode. I haven't tested this yet on my Stinger, I rarely use manual mode on my daily commute. The last time I did use it to play around with though it stayed in manual and did not shift for a very long period of time. I was actually quite confused as to why everyone was complaining about this because it did not shift until I slowed down and it had to. It will shift if you get near red line too but if you keep it in a 3K to 6K range it stays in the same gear. I wonder if different countries are getting different shift logic? I'm in Retardistan ('Murica) and have a GT2 AWD for reference.
