3.3TT Hood open or closed for cooling between track sessions?

Was talking to someone between sessions as I popped the hood to cool the engine. They asked if it helped and I realized I don't actually know...
The fan runs for a while as the car is parked, the hood could be acting as a shroud and forcing the air around the engine instead of just out the top.

Any ideas?

Hood open 100%, it's just science, heat rises.

Open. Air doesn't have a very good exit from the engine bay, so it'll just bake.
