Hello everyone. I just finally got around to purchasing the jb4. I am also putting in new plugs. I'm curious whether there is really a need for a complete replacement of the air intake or if high flow filters would be close on performance? I I have seen a lot of posts comparing the intakes, but none really comparing new intakes versus better filters. Thanks for any thoughts.

The filters are not the issue with the stock intake design. The complexity of the design - especially the parts in front of the core support - are the restriction. The actual inlet is a very small strip immediately under that large plastic panel attached to the bumper. The air then has to make several 90 degree turns through small plastic parts. It makes a very quiet intake, but is very restrictive.
That's why the big mouth intakes make such a difference - they replace the most restrictive parts. Other intakes with a cone just floating in the engine bay can pull air from anywhere, so the intake parts in front of the core support no longer matter.

The low-buck-high-return is big mouth + K&N panel filters.

The big dyno test Burger posted is a good reinforcement of this. The intake swap showed small gains down low, but more gains as the engine reved higher. Clear indication of a flow restriction (air intake, fuel, or exhaust) being improved.

Here is a good video. Can't wait to do jb4 on my stinger as well. Pretty awesome gains with the intakes.
