I'm a teetotaler, so the "beer" part is excised; otherwise, I concur wholly. "Sunday's fun day, Charlie Brown", always resonated with me. 
My upbringing was "Keep the Sabbath Day Holy", i.e. no profane activities on the Sabbath (Sunday for most Christians). But there are plenty of fun things that don't violate that injunction; and I include washing your car in that broad category. It's a day of rest, and rest is entirely subjective not dogmatic. "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" gets to the heart of the purpose of a rest and contemplation day each week. The entire system girds up its loins for another week of work and struggle. Make it a great rest day (and contemplate the wider purposes of Existence).
