Fresh/Re-circulating air in cabin

Pet peeve - there are many times when I'm behind a diesel some other smell I would rather not have to smell, I attempt to set my HVAC to RC (re-circulating) only to have it stay in FA(fresh air) or change to RC briefly and then go back to Fa on its own!! I know the system will NOT allow RC while in defrost mode, this is not the case. I never remember this being an issue until my last 2 cars - 2016 Optima SXL & 2018 Stinger - what the fudge

Maybe try taking it off Auto setting. I dont have that issue.

Yeah it's annoying but there are a couple of work arounds. Do you have Smart Vent and automatic ventilation turned off? If you turn those off it should keep RC selected, unless you open or tilt the sunroof, in which case it will keep automatically switching back to FA after a few minutes.
