Flickering driver door switch lights and ambient lighting issue

G

G-460849

I have the same exact flickering driver door switch issue on my ‘22. It’s identical to the video you posted. I’ll be following this thread. Glad to hear I’m not alone.

Was driving home this evening and it starting doing the exact same thing with the door switch lights. I noticed right after I parked in the driveway. Oddly enough, the red fasten seat belt light went off the same time the door switch lights did. Haven’t called the dealer yet. Have a 22 GT2

I am having this same issue with my 2022 stinger Gt2 AWD. The window and door lock lights on my driver side door blink on and off and at the same time my headlights blink bright and dim only if they’re in auto mode. Just bought it in November and I’ve Taken it to the dealer 2 times now for this issue and they say they can’t find anything wrong with it. I also took a video of mine while it was doing it and the dealer wouldn’t even watch it. I called the Kia consumer line and they opened a case.

This is the exact problem I have in my new 2023. Only have had the car for a couple months and this is happening.

Same thing is happening on my new 2022 received in May. Maybe unrelated but the lights from my driver door switches turn off when reversing and I've been having intermittent issues with my driver assistance not working/beeping. I almost reversed and hit something had I not been paying attention. The driver assistance would have beeped and prevented the car from going any further. My mirrors point downwards typically when reversing and that's been acting up too. I think I'm going to have to bring it in but afraid they're just going to turn me away saying they can't replicate the issue. The problem is it's intermittent and doesn't happen when you want to replicate it.

^^^It's very easy to turn off the parking sensors by accident; I did this several times early into my Stinger experience (learning curve). As for the on/off again electrical crap, that's the worst thing I dread the most (so far, only an occasional flatlined TPMS system, which comes back on after one to a few days and continues to operate flawlessly for months: the last time it went down was in late July *knock on wood*). You have this thread's solution: show it to your technicians, and may your issue be swiftly resolved.:(

I'm not sure I follow re: turning off the parking sensors by accident. Maybe I can elaborate - I would be in reverse and the car would have the typical reverse chime (different than the tone that alerts you when you're close to an object) but it keeps chiming every few seconds despite not moving. Normal behaviour is it chimes when you're changing between P/D/N/R. My folding mirrors would fold in and out multiple times, again not moving but in reverse gear. It's as if the car is struggling to understand it's actually in reverse or P/D/N. It sounds like an electrical issue to me but may or may not be related to the PWMS. I'll be bringing it in to get checked out but just found it weird the symptoms are somewhat related with the driver door switch lights turning off when in reverse gear.

Now you've added details that would not be confused with the parking sensors: my car does not "chime" in reverse: it "beeps" starting when you enter the green zone, then yellow then red (then *whump* if you don't get on the brakes). That function is what I've unintentionally turned off (but not for years now). Your description does sound like some electrical fubar, and I am sorry. Hopefully it won't hound you and they'll find the cause quickly.

I had a dashcam hardwired into the fusebox for months and I recently removed it since I uploaded the videos. It happened again the day after I removed the hardwiring but hasn't happened since for 2 weeks. I'm not 100% certain that it's related though but I'll keep you guys posted.

That's what mine has been doing since the first week of owning it, 2023 btw, then it stopped for awhile and just did it again the other day, down side here I really don't want to go to dealer right now too much work to undo on car lol. Did they fix yours?

Just about 7 months since the dealer replaced my PWMS and I haven’t had any issues with the switch lights flickering and the ambient lighting. Hopefully, I remain in the clear.

Came here seeking answers. So is it the door or the seat because like someone else I noticed my seatbelt dash light go off at the same time.

My ‘22 just had the same light flickering issue on the drivers door window/lock switches this week and when I stopped the car in my garage, put it in park, turned the car off, and opened the door the seat kept going back and forth at the same cadence as the blinking lights. I was just sitting in the car reading an email when this was happening. By design the seat is supposed to go back all the way to make it easier to get out of the car. But not return to the ready to drive position while the car is off just sitting there. This issue and the blinking lights has not resurfaced since then. They definitely seemed related.

Sorry to report my issue has returned almost 10 months after the “fix”. Driving this morning and the same lights in the driver’s door were flickering. Turned car off/on and that kept it from doing it again. However, I know I always have problems with my ambient lighting when this happens and today was no different. Kept getting “system unstable” message on the screen when picking different colors for the rest of my drive.

Im going to hook my scanner up and leave it on for all future drives to see if I can get a code live.

Did you ever have that issue after taking the hardwired dash cam out of the car? My car just started flickering lights on my door panel and the mirror do the same thing as your videos

Just curious, did you ever get any live codes? And I’ve read this whole thread like 3 times. But did the pwms fix the ambient lighting issue for you or just the flickering? I haven’t noticed if I have that issue at all (or just not yet) I also never change the colors though. I have only had the driver door panel lights flickering and my mirrors keep adjusting themselves while I’m in reverse. I’m just trying to get as much info as I can before I go to the dealer where I bought my stinger 3 hours away.

No live codes yet.

The driver door switch lights haven't flickered since I posted 2 weeks ago. The dealership and Kia treated the door switch lights flickering and the ambient lighting as 2 separate issues with the ambient lighting never being addressed (that said, I haven't had any issues with it since last April). The new PWMS was supposed to address the flickering door switch lights, which it may have done for nearly 10 months. HOWEVER, the reason I can't absolutely say the new PWMS fixed the issue is that prior to them replacing it, the flickering would go months between incidents. With a 4 or more month gap between times it happened, it's hard to confidently say that the PWMS was the problem. The tech said there was a short in the original one, but, who really knows if that was true or them just saying that to get Kia to approve a new part and get the car back to me.

Also, in the past 2 weeks since my flickering came back on the driver door and my ambient lighting issue, I have had all of my interior lighting flicker off and then back on twice now. Once, I was coming to a stop at the end of an off ramp. All the interior lights turned off and then immediately back on. The second time was 2 nights ago pulling out of my neighborhood; came to a stop and all interior lights went off then immediately back on. The drive mode also changed from ECO to Comfort. I can't remember if my headlights went off or not as the whole thing was so sudden and unexpected.

Next step is to get the battery and alternator tested at a parts store. I checked the battery with my multimeter today and it read 12.03V car off and 14.34V car running with radio, heated seats, etc. But I want both checked with hopefully a better reader than what I have. After that, best I can do is hope it does it when I'm leaving work in the morning some day and take it straight to the dealer so they can witness it, video it for Kia and get a proper diag scanner on it that reads more than what my scanner does.

Hey! Checked out the vids and I'm having the exact same behavior on all fronts.

Did it just end up going away or did you have it checked out.

I had something happen weeks ago that was super odd and I'm not sure it's related but while driving the dash cluster turned off for an instant and within a second or two every light in the cluster turned on and then it went back to normal.

Weird stuff!
