So when I was out of town this weekend I noticed after setting off that my parking brake light was still on I pushed it down a bunch of times to try and get it to turn off but it wouldn't. The brake clearly wasn't on, I wasn't experiencing any resistance but it didn't seem to engage when I got where I was going either. After eating lunch I came back out and when I drove away it was working fine again. We had pretty heavy rains the night before and all through that day, my car is always parked inside when I'm home but it wasn't at this house, could it possibly be some sort of short? Anyone else had this issue? I'm going to ask the service department about it but I'm sure without a code they won't have a clue what happened.

Memory (heh) tells me that I've seen the parking brake dash light not respond when I pushed down to disengage it. I almost never do that anyway: just start moving and it turns itself OFF. If you're ever wondering if your parking brake is functioning, try stopping the car with it in "N", under 5 MPH. A lift of the parking brake lever will produce a protest from the nanny in the form of that annoying tone - like when the engine is running and you get out and close the door: I refer to this as the "idiot whistle" (among other names). Anyway, the car comes to an abrupt halt with a little squeal out of the parking brake. If the parking brake does not do this, then yours is failed/failing for some reason.

I never disengage it myself either, when I shift into drive or reverse it automatically takes it off. But I noticed the light was still on as I was driving along and couldn't get it to shut off. But it was clear the brake wasn't engaged so I'm not sure why the car thought it was.

A once off? This is in the same category as my TPMS readout going to sleep; just dash lines: happened twice, both road trips: and resumed normal readout of psi after turning off and gassing up. Hopefully this is just one of those electronic hiccups.
